I'm currently in Thailand on an education visa. My second 3 month extension will expire on the 29th of November. At this time I will have completed 9 months on the education visa. I don't want to do the final 3 month extension. On the 29th of November, I want to leave the country, and go to Lao, and apply for a DTV. My question: Do I need to do a cancel on the Education visa, or can I just wait until the 2nd extension expires, and go apply for the DTV.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is currently on an education visa in Thailand and is planning to leave for Lao on the expiration date of the second extension. They are uncertain whether they need to cancel the education visa or if they can simply leave the country once the extension expires. The responses indicate that it is necessary to cancel the education extension at immigration, which involves obtaining a letter from the school confirming the end of studies. However, if the user does not intend to continue with the education visa upon return, they may leave before the last stamped date and the visa would automatically cancel.

If you're not planning to leave and then come back to "continue" the education visa it doesn't really matter. As long as you leave before the last stamped date on your passport is ok. I did it like this and I was only 6 months with the ed visa (in a 9 months course) and just left, that cancelled my ed visa automatically, and then I came back as a tourist again.

You don't have an education visa. You have an education extension. You are indeed required to cancel this at immigration. You need to get a letter from your school that states your final day of study and then take this to immigration. You can go about a week before the date on the letter at most immigration offices and then they will cancel your extension and stamp you in until that date.

Thanks for the advice. Can you please confirm to me, if I don't cancel the extension, and leave Thailand on the 29th of November (when it expires), will my DTV application in Lao get rejected becuase I didn't cancel?

probably won't get rejected but they might not let you out at the land border. And you might get fined by immigration in Thailand for failing to notify them that you finished studying which was a requirement of your extension.
