Hello, I am on an Education visa which runs out in March. I want to apply for the DTV in January. Do I need to cancel Ed visa before I leave or can I cancel on my return with the DTV. I will apply in Cambodia but my flight is early Monday and immigration is closed over the weekend. I'm concerned that the DTV will not be successful as I have not officially cancelled it at immigration and I only have an exit stamp as you can't have two visas at the same time. Any advice would be welcome.
Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an Education visa expiring in March and wants to apply for a DTV visa in January. There are concerns about whether the Education visa needs to be canceled before applying, especially since the user is flying to Cambodia when immigration is closed. Comments from the community indicate that leaving the country with an active visa automatically cancels it, and it is possible to apply for a DTV visa subsequently. However, having an active visa or extension typically prevents the issuance of a second visa until the first one is handled.
Anonymous participant 430 You mean you had ED visa but it wasn’t expired yet? Then you left Thailand = Your ED visa was automatically cancelled? Because ED visa can also travel out of Thailand and come back in if ED visa ain’t expire)
yes correct I had a ED visa valid till end of January 2025 left and it canceled out. If you want to keep it you need a re entry permit but that’s another topic.
Hi, I am on an extension of stay. Did you cancel your Ed visa early at immigration before you left Thailand or did you leave on an exit stamp with no re-entry permit?
