Hello everybody! I'm currently on a DTV visa, but I married recently and want to switch to a non-o marriage visa. Can somebody tell me if I need to cancel my DTV visa first, before I can apply for a non-o marriage visa? Or I can simply apply for the new visa and my old visa would be automatically cancelled?
Someone here mentioned that only the embassy/consulate who issued you the visa can cancel it. I got my DTV from Laos, Consulate. Do I need to visit Laos again to cancel my DTV visa?
I'll be applying for non-o visa from my home country and not Laos. So making a trip to Laos just to cancel my current DTV visa will be quite a hassle.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is on a DTV visa and wants to switch to a non-O marriage visa after marriage. They seek clarification on whether they need to cancel their DTV visa before applying for the new visa or if they can apply directly. Responses from community members suggest that if applying from outside Thailand, cancelling the DTV visa might not be necessary as it's usually handled automatically. However, if changing visas while in Thailand, cancellation may be required. It's also advised to consult the embassy for specific requirements.
If you change visa to be Non-O visa in Thailand have to cancel DTV but if you apply visa from outside Thailand no need to cancel,Just switch to Non-O , ask immigration police for sure
I would just keep the DTV visa. You will only get a single entry non immigrant O from any embassy or consulate. You can then go to immigration and get a year extension if you have money seasoned in a bank for 3 months. They will also want pictures of you and your wife standing in front of your residence showing the house number, sitting on the end of your bed and a bunch of other weird photos . They want a map drawn by hand to your house a Google map print out isn't good enough. They will also come visit you at your house. You have a 5 year visa that gives you 180 days on arrival why mess with a good thing. I get marriage Visa's and I'm planning on getting a DTV visa because it's less headache.
