I'm flying into Phuket international with a Thai pass, correct hotel booking and tests booked. Am I correct in thinking that I don't need the hotel authorised transport in Phuket rather than I'd need elsewhere.

I booked and paid for a Sha Taxi online. When I arrived at Phuket he never showed up. After all the checks I just flagged a taxi down outside international arrivals. They're all Sha taxis there!

You need SHA plus transportation not normal taxi.

I looked at it and was easier to book through hotel as if something happened to driver or vehicle they would arrange another.

You can search around to find driver with credentials and taxi set up with screens etc.

Could save you couple of hundred baht that way.
