Do I Need Insurance If I Arrived in Thailand on an OA Visa Before the Deadline?

Arrived today at Suvarnabhumi on an OA visa I received before Oct 31  Immigration asked if I had insurance but the officer next to her said I did not need due to getting the visa before the deadline

BUT

there is no need to debate why you weren't asked for proof of insurance, I doubt the immigration officers really know what they're doing yet.
