TLDR : Answer Summary
No, you do not need an exit flight to enter Thailand on a 90-day O visa. Many users reported successfully entering with a one-way ticket and without specifying departure information. However, it's important to note that airlines may have different policies, and some may require proof of onward travel. For peace of mind, travelers suggest purchasing a temporary onward ticket that gets canceled automatically after a few days.

I came in October on a 90 day Non-o…. I applied in my home country …. I left the return information blank …. No issues 👍

US airlines are very fussy about a return ticket. Onward Flight does not issue a ticket but a reservation slip. My airline gave me a hassle but eventually relented. A last minute hiccup I didn't need!

I just put departure by bus (to Laos) on the 90th day which, coincidentally is where I am now. I put the same on TDAC

For peace of mind you can purchase a temporary onward ticket which is completely legit and verified for approx. $12 / £10. Go to Best Onward Ticket site. It gets automatically cancelled after a couple of days.

The problem that you may have is with the airline company, not the visa itself

As you said : should not be required, it is worth the trouble if the airline doesn't agree?

not all airlines know the rules. Yes it's not necessary with a visa but I have been asked a couple of times anyway in Copenhagen Airport.

you can apply for a 90 days visa, and will receive a 90-days retirement visa. After this you can only apply for a 1-year Extension of the Stay Permit based on being over 50/retired. The 1-year extension is not what you call a "retirement visa". It is a stay permit for one year.

I emailed the very same question to the Thai Embassy in Australia and received the below reply.

"You may enter Thailand with a one-way ticket; however, admission into the country is subject to the discretion of the Thai immigration officers."

What is that supposed to mean?

It clearly states that a return ticket is not required.

It is not required for ANY LONG TIME visa.

However for EVERY ENTRY it is up to the officer(s) if they let you enter or not. Visa or no visa.

No.

But the application will ask you got entry and exit flight information, so just find the information for a flight out of Thailand within 90 days of the flight you put for arrival and fill that in.
