Do I need a return ticket to enter Thailand on a Non-O visa while planning to apply for a retirement extension?

If I'm coming in on a Non O or whatever with the intention of getting an extension based on retirement, will I have to show an return ticket both to get out of Australia and into Thailand?

Oz immigration let out without a return once because my passport is full of used visas but next trip will be on a new passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring if they need to show a return ticket when arriving in Thailand on a Non-O visa, particularly for the purpose of applying for a retirement extension. Responses indicate that having a valid visa generally suffices for entry, and a return ticket is often not required if immigration is satisfied with the intent of the visit. Some experiences point out that airlines may still ask for return tickets to mitigate their own risk regarding denied boarding, but there are ways to circumvent this if one can show a legitimate visa.

, I'm gonna hazard a guess and say you're on an extension of stay based on education that you got from the immigration office right?

If so, go cancel the extension at the immigration office, leave the country that day (or buy the 7 day get outta thailand stamp for 1900baht). Exit thailand, go to a thai consulate and buy either a 90 day single entry Non-O, or another ED visa.

Just curious, where you do you get the one year ED visas? I have found fewer and fewer thai consulates will issue them.

you won't need onward travel comin' into the country on ANY type of Non-Immigrant visa.

Hi Tod... it’s just a regular ED visa subject to 90day extensions issued from my language school. I appreciate your help as you recently advised me on transitioning from an ED to retirement visa. I’m basically just concerned about the aspect of possession of an exit plane ticket if I come back into BKK on my ED visa. Or, on a non-O in transition to a retirement visa... in either scenario, hopefully, I’ll be in-country for a long time and not have an exit date or scheduling a departure ticket. Yet, without one, I don’t want a hassle coming in-country... does this make sense? Anyway, thanks for your time and attention. You really go out of your way to help. 👍🏼

, your ED visa came to the end, you left Thailand came back with an new 1 year ED Visa instead of a Non-O and you are now in Bangkok. Who is asking in Bangkok for onward/exit tickets?
Tim ********
I’m in BKK with ED visa and need to leave, then return with a non-O to convert to a retirement visa. So, I’m interested in this... but, if instead of this, I came back with a one year ED visa again, would I need an onward/exit ticket?

Plus -- you can get on line a book as cheap a ticket to KL or Vientiane as possible ... Bus tickets have even worked ...

A Non Imm O visa - not being a Tourist Visa might get a pass for any requirements.. Just explain that you are going to convert the Non O to a long term retirement extension...

Airlines are responsible for you if your entry gets denied. That is the only reason that airlines want to see return tickets. If you have a valid Visa it should not be a problem, if they want to make it a problem you can always ask the chief and sign a waiver for their responsibility.

Coming from Madrid I was told 'a visa', return or onward ticket out of the Country satisfies airline boarding requirements.

I'm more worried about them not letting me board in Oz.

You don’t need it to board in oz if you show visa. I did it 9 months ago.

If you have a valid Visa for Thailand, normally the Thai Immigration stamps you in without asking for return ticket.
