TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 90-day Non-O visa in the UK with the intention of transitioning to a retirement visa in Thailand, there is no requirement to book an onward flight out of Thailand after the first 60 days. The Non-O visa allows you to establish residence in Thailand, and you will be eligible to apply for an extension or a retirement visa once in the country. Comments from other users confirm that there is no need for onward travel proof in this context.

I am doing the same and on my way to BKK. No need for onward flights since you are eligible for 1 year extension. I assume you are applying for Non-O.

You won't be applying for a retirement visa in Thailand, because you'll already have the retirement visa from the embassy. You'll be applying for an extension in Thailand.

Traveling to Thailand on a non-immigrant visa does not have any requirements for onward travel as this type of visa can be used to establish living in Thailand.

thanks for saying that it's exactly what I was going to say ✅ it's the airline that will need to see your visa without onward travel and not immigration. Once your here then you apply for an extension of stay.

No airline "normally" ask for a return or onward ticket when you're on a 90 days Non-O Visa.

No, but they might ask for an onward ticket or a visa/stay, and if some inexperienced staff members ask for a onward ticket when you provide a Non O you’ll just ask to see their supervisor.

Been asked for onward ticket several times and have just shown my Non O. But I’ve also seen feedbacks of staff asking for an onward ticket when the passenger holds a Non O.

Yes,really. You're not a tourist when you're on a 90 days Non-O Visa.
