Hi all. I'm on a non o multiple entry marriage visa. 1 year but 90 day entry at a time. I am getting mixed information from DLT and IO. I am in Phu Sang, near Chaingkham, Phayao district.
I am buying a car/truck. DLT here are saying I need to be in Thailand for 1 year before I can have it in my name. However, IO in Phayao said to go to DLT, get a letter from them and they will sort the paperwork. Whatever that means.
I understood, before starting this. that I could get a residency paper from IO, take that with seller, to DLT and have the vehicle in my name. It appears not to be that simple.
Not sure what to do? I can put it in my wife's name but wanted it in mine. BTW, we have been married 34 years so no issues there. We both, mostly, live in the UK though I'm now retired and want to spend more time in Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is on a non-O multiple entry marriage visa and is seeking clarity on the requirements for registering a vehicle in Thailand. There are conflicting opinions from the Department of Land Transport (DLT) and Immigration Office (IO) regarding whether a residency certificate is necessary and the duration of residence required before the vehicle can be registered in their name. Comments suggest obtaining a residence certificate from the IO, as it facilitates various administrative processes. Users also mention differences in regulations based on location within Thailand.

The letter the DLT want, is a 'Residence Certificate' which you obtain from Immigration. Prices vary between different offices, so do the rules. Eg Bangkok it's almost impossible to obtain if you aren't doing 90 day reports. Pattaya however easy, just go in with your TM30 details.
The Resident Certificate is a standard request and needed or helps for all sorts of things, driving licences, bank accounts, registering vehicles... My local IO in Kanchanburi charge 500thb, and they write the reason for the request on the resident certificate.
Putting it in your wife's name would probably be easier...
some immigration offices don’t wNt to issue the resident certificate without an official request from the department it’s intended for. Hence DLT should issue a letter requesting the IO to issue you the certificate in order to purchase a vehicle.
hmm, maybe some tea money would help. May have to wait till my wife gets here in January. She knows how to approach that as she got me the letter to open a bank account last year.
that's why I was puzzled. They gave me one last year and I opened my bank accounts with it. However, this year they didn't seem to want to give me one. I was on exactly the same visa.
