Wondering about the truck I bought, I’m still on a Covid extension with plans to get a retirement extension in January, is it possible to have the truck in my name without a proper visa? I need the truck book updated before the end of the year, (sellers ID card expires). tia

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, anyone can purchase and register a vehicle regardless of visa or residency status. However, to register a vehicle, foreigners must present a passport and a certificate of residency, work permit, or a yellow Tabaan book.

Anyone can buy a vehicle in Thailand, there are no visa or residency requirements. The DLT requires foreigners to present their passport and a certificate of residency, workpermit, or yellow Tabaan book to register a vehicle in their name (car or motorbike).

appreciate your information, well as of now I don’t have any of that. lol I guess put it in the wife’s name till She gets me in the book home. And then I can get the certificate of residency. Thanks again

No problem mate. If you trust your wife, honestly I'd just leave it in her name. Selling a vehicle registers to a foriegner is a bit if a pain too depending on the DLT office. Chiang Mai DLT requires the foriegner to be present, have a valid visa, AND have a certificate of residency. This means if you're outside Thailand for some reason, you wouldn't be able to sell your vehicle, something a lot of foriegners stuck outside Thailand during covid ran into.

dang maybe more trouble than it’s worth, don’t really have a problem being in the wife’s name, just feeling like I would own something in Thailand! 555

Thanks

As foreigner, you will never get registered in a Thai house book unless you get Permanent Residency .. which is very hard to get and is likely to take ten years.

Getting a Certificate of Residency is easy. It's just a piece of paper that confirms where you are staying. It takes from between a day to a week to get.

100% not true, anyone can get a yellow taaban. Contrary to popular belief, even renting a house/condo you can have a taaban, I know many foriegners who have them.
