TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about visa requirements for traveling by car from Bangkok to Cambodia, specifically whether a visa is needed prior to arrival or can be obtained at the border. Several comments clarify that UK passport holders receive a 60-day visa exemption upon arrival in Thailand, which can be extended. For Cambodia, obtaining a visa on arrival is possible for about $30. Additionally, comments highlight the importance of having proper currency (both USD and Thai Baht) and precautions against scams at the border.

The border near Koh Chang would be my pick if you can get through there with the car, then you can rally it all the way to Sihanoukville.

You can get a evisa for Cambodia but make sure you have a colour print out as well, as customs will scam you, make sure your car has all its papers as well, don't cross into Cambodia at Poipet, they will try to scam you even though you have a visa, make sure they stamp you in and check the date.

I have driven in with my son who has lived in BKK for 20 yrs, he travels twice a year and even he gets caught, if you have Thai Baht, they say no, need USD. If you have USD they say no need Thai baht. It's mainly customs dept and Immigration officers. Also make sure you $USD are new notes, there are millions in counterfeit floating around and even some shopping places will try to palm them off on you in change. Nice place but totally corrupt

There is also an Evisa option for Cambodia so you can apply online before you travel which speeds up the entry process as you don't need to do the visa on arrival when you get there.

You don’t need to make the trip to Cambodia. You will get 60 days visa exemption on arrival and can extend it by 30 days at an immigration office.

Also be aware that the airline can ask to see your exit ticket out of Thailand and it has to be within the first 60 days. Immigration, of course, have the same right.

If the car you are planning to drive is a rental car, you may find there are restrictions about taking it out of the country.

UK passport. Each entry to Thailand you get up to 60 days with no visa and can extend for extra 30 days. Leave and re-enter you get up to 60 days again with no visa which you can extend for 30 days.

no idea if previous holiday stays are an issue, but wouldn't think so.
