Last three border crossings (all visa exempt) 21.07.17 left 23.07.17, 01.12.17 left 04.12.17, and 14.07.18 left 18.07.18. I need to go overland into Thailand again on 14.08.18. do I need a visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a UK passport holder living in Cambodia, inquired whether a visa is necessary for an overland entry into Thailand scheduled for 14.08.18, considering their past border crossings earlier that year. Community responses clarified that they had only utilized one of their two allowed visa-exempt entries for 2018, thus they are eligible for one more entry by land without needing a visa. In addition, it was noted that travelers should be prepared with necessary documentation as required by immigration.
The 2 visa exempt land entries per year must be having a huge impact on westerners who live in Cambodia and Laos and rely on trips across the border for decent/affordable shopping, healthcare and flights from BKK.
That's what I thought. Flying from BKK is much more convenient than flying from Laos, so some expats who fly regularly must need to cross the border a lot to do so. The METV takes care of that.
So you can do unlimited border crossings if you are getting a flight from BKK? I didn't know that. Presumably you have to show a flight ticket out of BKK?
The thai consulates in Lao will sell 6 month METV's to foreigners working there legally so they can come to thailand an unlimited number of times in a 6 month period.
Granted it's not as easy as it was before with the unlimited crossings but it works.
The law states you can ONLY get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by a land crossing in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31). Your history shows you've used only one so far this year July 14th so you can get another one
