TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights that it is generally necessary for certain passport holders, including those from the Solomon Islands, to obtain a visa before arriving in Thailand. Visa on arrival options or visa exemptions are not applicable for all nationalities, and it's recommended that applicants check with the Thai consulate or embassy prior to travel.

I think from outside of Australia you should apply to the embassy in Canberra. The consulate is probably a convenience for NSW residents.

Fair enough, his profile says he lives in Sydney, I guessed that was why he was picking that one.

They may but I'm sure they just send them to Canberra for approval. He's not going there, just mailing it.

It appears that people from the Solomon Islands need to BUY a visa before they come to thailand. They cannot get in on the visa-on-arrival or the visa exempt program..
