Quick Question on the re entry permit! I have a marriage visa and want to go home for a couple months. Do I need to show a plane ticket of dates I will be leaving and coming back ? I question because not sure how long I will be gone. Thanks in advance.
Answer summary
You do not need to show a plane ticket or specific travel dates when applying for a re-entry permit for your marriage visa (Non-O) in Thailand. A re-entry permit allows you to leave and return without losing your visa status. You can apply for a single or multiple re-entry permit at the immigration office or at the airport before departure. While a single re-entry permit costs 1,000 baht, a multiple re-entry permit is more convenient for longer or uncertain travel plans, costing 3,800 baht. Make sure to return before your visa extension expires.

For the amount they cost, I would say it’s more convenient to get a multi-entry permit rather than a single entry. It would give you peace of mind. If something occurred elsewhere, while you are in Thailand, you just need to buy a ticket out, go to the airport and leave. You don’t have the added distraction of getting a re-entry permit. Anyway, the decision is yours and the costs are:

single re-entry = 1000 baht

Multiple re-entry = 3800 baht

Donald Campbell can the re-entry permit be purchased if you are already in Thailand on an extension ( marriage) . My wife , a dual Thai/Australian national and I are in the process of winding up our business and will be retiring there later this year.

Simply put: your re-entry permit is valid for the period left in your extension. If you buy a multi re-entry you can leave and re-enter multiple time during the life of the extension. If you buy a single re-entry permit you can depart and arrive once during that period as the single re-entry expires when you re-enter Thailand.

I got my multiple re-entry at my local Immigration office at the same time I got my Non-O extension based on retirement so I can’t comment of getting it at the airport. However I am aware that the marriage extension has a lot more hoops to jump through before it is granted than a retirement extension so I would bear this in mind with regard to your return date lest you not have enough time to renew the extension.

Donald Campbell so I am new to this I get my 1year marriage visa(non O) the first time on Feb 22nd. I want just to go home for a couple months. I should be fine because I will be back way before it expires. So should I do multi entry in case I want to go back again within the year ?

Laura Todd I always get multiple re-entry same time as extension. We travel allot so I know I need it, if your sure you only need single then it’s the cost of single and multiple you save but if your not sure then do the multiple same time as extension on the 22.

Laura Todd Some people are fixated on getting their re-entry permits at the airport but until you’ve seen the setup there it’s a no brainer to kill two birds with one stone and get it at the same time as you get your extension. You’ll get the full 12 months that way too.

The only reason I can see you might want to get a re-entry permit at the airport is if you didn’t get a multi-entry permit while you were getting your extension and either only got a single re-entry then or didn’t get one, maybe thinking you wouldn’t require it?

I leave for 6-7 months . Only need to get a reentry permit at the airport. I get my extension right before I leave

You don’t need to show anything. Just get reentry permit. Otherwise, your O visa expires when you exit Thailand. You can do it in the airport before leaving.

The most important thing is you must return before your extension of stay expires

Just put some dates that you think you may travel on. No ticket is needed.

@Stuart ********
surely you just ask and pay for single or multi re-entery, no need for dates 🤔🤔

Doesn’t work that way for most offices. You put expectant dates. No one gives a monkeys on what dates you state.
