TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, if you plan to leave Thailand during your 60-day visa period and wish to return without losing your 60-day stamp, you will need to obtain a re-entry visa. Without it, you would not be able to re-enter Thailand with the same visa period.

Yes if you want to keep your 60 day stamp “alive”. You wouldn’t get any extra days.

UK passport holders can go for 60 days visa free, so I wouldn’t actually need any visa
UK passport holders can enter Thailand with no visa for 30 days, not 60. If you were going to Vietnam you could do 30 days, in Thailand then go and you would get another 30 when you return.
as soon as you leave without a re-entry permit you visa expires. You can get a re-entry permit at the airport for 1000 baht if your visa is multiple entry.
BS. You said you cant use a re-re-entry permit on a single entry and you dont need one on a multiple entry and ended of say "so you are wrong on both counts"....... The tone was the same as your next reply....one of insecurity
100% you don’t need a re entry permit for a multiple entry visa. The only time this would be needed if you’re on the “second” year of an OA visa where the second year isn’t multiple entry.
