Did I unintentionally cheat someone by receiving money after my bus ride in Thailand?

Man in Grees Bus uniform gave me 100 Baht and change?

I purchased seat 3A on VIP bus departing from Chiang Mai at 10:30 today going to Chiang Rai (purchased days ago on green bus app). I show up early and have a seat near platforms 20 and 21. Someone from Greenbus comes by and I show him my printed confirmation and he hands me a little bag with a little money (even has my name on the paper in the bag) I assume I need to give it to the bus driver or something but later after arriving in Chiang Rai, my friend picks me up and we go out for lunch. Later at my hotel I start unpacking at I empty my pockets and still have the bag of money.

Now did I unintentionally cheat someone?

The VIP bus is supposed to have only three seats per row and this bus had 4, and every seat was occupied. Did the reimburse me because they changed the type of bus? Still had my 3A seat I selected on the app, but the 3A on the app was first row single seat on right hand side, and now 3A was third row left side window seat.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user concerns whether they accidentally kept money intended for someone else after taking a VIP bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, where the bus configuration changed leading to a refund. Comments suggest they received the money as a reimbursement for the bus change, reassuring the user that it's acceptable to keep it, and offering various light-hearted suggestions on how to use the money.

The change is for the gogo bar

The VIP ticket that you purchased : 305 Baht

The ticket that you got : 196 Baht

You received 305 - 196 = 109 Baht in return.

That’s it.

Maybe they cancelled the VIP trip on that day.

Lol. I order grouped stuff on Lazada all the time and instead of telling me "sorry, we don't have what you paid for" they mail me change... It really sucks when you order stuff that you need as a set and they don't tell you.. (imagine ordering 4 tires online, and a week later you only receive 3 and a cash refund for #4 πŸ˜…).

Yes, of course they do that when the VIP bus is not operational. They change for you to pΓ΄ nung ( first class bus) Thailand is not India

True. Thailand isn't Laos either. In Laos - you can't pay for fuel (gas, petrol) using a credit card anywhere in the country. Few gas stations are open after 10pm. So few in fact, you could probably count them on one hand!

Many restaurants and other merchants, even banks, don't have working credit card terminals. Roads are atrocious except for the Chinese built 109km stretch of expressway between Vientiane and Vang Vieng and a couple of other limited stretches of road built by Thai contractors. After a couple of years, these roads develop potholes the size of a car, due to lack of maintenance

Laos is a lovely country but decades behind Thailand in terms of development.

@Frnc *******
That would be a waste of money.

So you got refunded as they changed the bus from VIP to standard. Happens

Awfully long story over $3. How can I get these 8 minutes of my life back?
Paul *******
What do you consider a "long story"? Anything longer than one sentence? If it took you a whole 8 minutes to read that SHORT paragraph, something is wrong with you. Took me less than a minute.

Your change
Michael ********
Give it to first busker/deserving beggar/old person collecting bottles that you see.

You are correct they must have changed to a cheaper bus configuration so that is your change.

They are quite precise with bus charges, its set by the goverment.

It's Thailand, you will never understand.
