Will my night bus trip from Udon Thani to Chiang Mai after returning from Vientiane cause any immigration issues?

Hi, if I come back by the night bus from Udon Thani to Chiang Mai, that night I spend is not going to be a problem once I come from Vientiane, right? Last year nothing happened, but not sure how "picky" are this year. Another question. My friend will do the TM30 online because I will stay in her place. I´m ok with an invitation letter a copy of her ID and copy of the blue book with the TM47 filled once I go to do my duties? It´s for a Non ED Visa. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about potential immigration issues regarding a night bus trip from Udon Thani to Chiang Mai after returning from Vientiane. Commenters suggested that the situation might depend on arrival times and how strict immigration is currently. Additionally, the user is seeking confirmation on whether their friend’s completion of the TM30 online for their stay would be acceptable, along with an invitation letter and required documents. Responses indicate that proper documentation is necessary for the Non-ED Visa, particularly concerning the 90-day reporting requirements.

I did something similar when coming to Chiang Rai, not Chiang Mai. Chiang Rai were pretty picky.....i entered nong kai from laos on a tuesday. Took a night bus the tuesday night and arrived the wednesday morning. I went to immigration to submit my 24 hour residency on the wedneday afternoon and i would have had to pay the fine (my landlord was away) if i didnt show my bus ticket receipt....

@Robert ******
I just edited my post above....there was nothing on the system to show where i stayed the tuesday night so they assumed and argued i stayed at home in chiang rai and they were pushing me to pay the fine....when i presented the evidence of the bus ticket they were ok....

You do not need proof where you stayed between the moment when you crossed into Thailand and the day you arrive at your address.

Robert Lagas yes but i had no proof showing i only came back to my address that day....only my passport saying i entered the country the day before...there was nothing on the system saying i didn't enter chiang rai the day before so the onus was on me to show them.

The address reporting is within 24 hours after arriving at the address, not after entering Thailand.

Once you show your bus ticket everything was fine? Interesting

Well first part depends on your last day of your Admitted to Stay date and your arrival time at the border check point. Going to Vientiane and your second question is making a 90 day report? You only get the Single Entry Non Immigrant ED visa that allows you to stay 90 days in Thailand.

Ok, understood.. Thanks!!

Again: Within 24 hours after arrival your friend report your address at Immigration. YOU just go to school and the school will give you all documents needed to apply for an Extension of Stay. Than you will get from Immigration 90 days Extension and they will do the 90 day report at the same time. Your friend can do the report at the Immigration Office, than she get a small paper for you as proof that it is done, or if she does it online make a print screen of the application.

So I have to do it once I extend those 90 for my one year course? 🤔

You don't even have the visa yet and if you get the visa you only allowed 90 days inside the country. NOT more than 90 days.

You go to Vientiane to get a new visa, which only allow you to stay 90 days inside Thailand and you worry about a piece of paper to report that you stay longer than 90 days inside Thailand?

I have to get a piece of paper from immigration once I show them where I'm staying. What kind of documents I need to bring to immigration to get the 90 days report?

@Robert ******

Your friend has to report you within 24 hours after arrival using the TM 30 form. Just make a search in this page and you will find a long post from me with all the explanation in it.

Yes, the Ed visa info is only to refer that is not a border cross, I will stay 90 days so I must to do the tm47... My question is, I'm ok providing those documents or I need something else?
