TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around renewing a driving license in Thailand for those on a DTV visa. It appears that while most holders start with a 2-year license, some have successfully transitioned to a 5-year license upon renewal. Key points include that a Non-O visa may be required for the 5-year license, and some individuals have reported different experiences based on their location and specific circumstances related to residency certificates and medical exams.

In Phuket unfortunately only 2 years. 😔

Renewed mine for the 3rd time last month. Before on METV, now on DTV.

As the DTV is classed as a tourist visa you would normally only get a 2 year licence

Everyone gets a 2 year license to start out with. Once the 2 years is up and you re-new you can get the 5 years license

Edit** I forgot to explain the need of a non-o visa to qualify for 5 year my bad

To be honest , it’s still case by case this is Thailand 1% might get through. 99 might not.

But as a general rule about 8 months ago they said you must have a visa that has 1 year stamps. ( not 1 year remaining) just a 1 year stamp

So like retirement, elite , LTR etc.

Does it mean you can only renew for another 2 years? or it can’t be renewed at all, just let it expire?

According to the DLT regulations the 5 year driving license is only issued to holders of Non Immigrant visas.
