TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the process of renewing a car driving license in Thailand from a 2-year period to a 5-year period while holding a DTV visa. Most comments indicate that while initially, all holders receive a 2-year license, those with specific types of visas, especially Non-O visas, can qualify for a 5-year renewal. There is a consensus that additional documentation like a residency certificate and a medical exam are necessary for those seeking a 5-year license.

It’s possible , no problem according to DLT clerk Chiang Mai , just need residency certificate + medical exam paper. 505 Bath for each verhicle , car or motorcycle

I went in October to Rayong and got my first 2yr licence. There were two other guys there both on DTVs renewing their 2yr licence and were both given a 5yr!

Can't

As the DTV is classed as a tourist visa you would normally only get a 2 year licence

Everyone gets a 2 year license to start out with. Once the 2 years is up and you re-new you can get the 5 years license

Edit** I forgot to explain the need of a non-o visa to qualify for 5 year my bad

Old information ℹ️ that was the case up until about 8 months ago 👌🙏🏽

ah figures thats when I got the info in may lol 😆 I been watching for changes but nothing has been approved ill have to look again.

To be honest , it’s still case by case this is Thailand 1% might get through. 99 might not.

But as a general rule about 8 months ago they said you must have a visa that has 1 year stamps. ( not 1 year remaining) just a 1 year stamp

So like retirement, elite , LTR etc.

Man I was about to jump on your last comment 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@Jef *******
it looks the same to me a 2 year license is first step and non-o visa has been required. I didnt clarify that a non-o visa was required i just assumed that was understood my bad that and it was pointed out already just saying everyone starts at 2 year
Jef ********
And DTV is not a NON O visa…..
James *******
I renewed and got a 5 year license.

Does it mean you can only renew for another 2 years? or it can’t be renewed at all, just let it expire?

According to the DLT regulations the 5 year driving license is only issued to holders of Non Immigrant visas.

@Pete ******
then why do so many get 5 years? 😅

@Dany *******

Or LTR or others..

Chiang Mai was giving DTV holder 5 years initially. I got one early on.. Now I dont know.

You need a long-term visa to get a 5-year license.
Dany ********
@Wannikea ********
people on DTV are getting a 5yr left and right. so this is again not a correct information
