What are the entry requirements and potential issues for DTV holders when traveling in Thailand?

Lmao these new posts scare me with my first exit on dtv visa coming up after six months here. I still have my savings account in tact since I came here but im freelance worker and with my industry taking a bit of a (hopefully) seasonal downturn, ive been doing more travelling and expect to pick up the slack in the summer months. Been making less than $1000 monthly with no formal employment. I'm sure i can politely explain my way out but sounds stressful. Good luck to anyone flying soon!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation centers around concerns related to exiting Thailand on a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) after six months, especially regarding income and savings requirements. Many participants reassure that there is no formal income requirement for DTV holders, as long as they maintain a certain balance in their bank account. Comments mention experiences of re-entries into Thailand, emphasizing minimal scrutiny from immigration officials. Overall, the discussion stresses the importance of calmness during the immigration process and highlights the relatively hassle-free nature of exiting Thailand with a DTV.

Don’t worry about that. I’m on a working DTV and I have entered at Phuket and Bangkok airports and satun border 7 times so far, twice on a border bounce. Never been asked about money or income.

Done an entry today. Think it was my 16th time? Zero questions asked. People spew fear in these groups because they have an ulterior motive.

Oh yeh and I didn’t have that spastic laminated paper. I handed my phone over and got it back about 15 seconds later as she was most likely comparing my visa number to the one I put in on my Tdac.

times though they’ll just stamp and let you through with minimum hassle.

If you are unlucky you will get a grumpy lady officer who will give you lots of grief and eye rolls and sighs about DTV, but her supervisor will let you in. It’s stressful but just remain calm.

Thanks all for kind words and reassurance! I dont think anyone was mean 🤣. Feeling confident now and have realised despite all these recent stories about people being giving a hard time im not aware of one person with DTV actually being denied entry so I think we safe for now

I was one of the first wave to get a DTV. I’ve left Thailand once every week or 2 since the start.

Over 2 dozen entries into every Thai airport.

Never once asked a question…

Immigration tells it is a requirement, and it does not make sense you only need to have at moment of application.

For what should itbe used at that moment? It is meant as reserve for emergency situations, so to protect yourself.

I really don't understand all those people telling it is not necessary and you can spend the money right after application.

Even when it was not a requirement, you should just have it for your own sake.

am not saying its not smart to have. Its really smart to have actually. Can you show me anywhere in written you need to keep it for all 5 years?

Immigration isnt responsible for the DTV, MFA is.

But yeah immigration can deny you for anything they want to deny you for.

I don't understand why people want to see written you need it for 5 years.

It is mentioned as visa requirement and the visa is valid for 5 years, immigration checks it also as visa requirement when you do in country extension, so I do not see why it should not be kept for 5 years or as log as you use the visa.

Immigration is not responsible for issuing the visa, but is responsible for checking aliens as it is called in Thai law to comply with requirements to enter the country, and also they are responsible for extensions.

Some people want to have written out everything, some said TM47 was not for DTV because it is not mentioned on the visa.

Only needing to have 500K BEFORE you got to Thailand and no need to have it while you are in Thailand just does not make any sense.

So I just believe what they tell me at the Immigration office, and not what some people here want me to believe.

I asked at Immigration office, why should they lie to me.

When you don't believe me that is your problem, just ask for yourself, but I am wondering what you're doing here when you don't trust others.

I only tell what officials tell me so others in the group know.

I could of course also ask you where you seevin written that the 500 k is only necessary at moment of application, I am sure you cannot, but asking would only cause irritation from you and not help me in any way because I have no reason to distrust the immigration officer on this.

hard for me to show proof of a non requirement.

Should be easy for you to show a requirement.

All immigration offices and officers are diffrent.

Immigration isnt even the right office for DTV because MFA issued it.

Am not saying you or they are lying, but its not stated anywhere its required to keep the money in your account for the full 5 years. But its not a bad thing to keep it.

I see the visa requirements clearly described, and see no reason why some of them should stop right after the moment the embassy makes a decision, but if you interpret it that way it is up to you.

Using common sense would say something different.

I suppose you also think that when you apply for softpower you can cancel your training the moment you are granted the visa, because nowhere is stated that it is not OK to do so.

And Immigration certainly is the right place to ask because they are enforcing the rules, but I also asked embassy and they simply said all requirements are in place for the time you spend in Thailand.

there is no requirement for how long a softpower should be or that you need to reapply. But again, its smart to do so.

But no such requirement.

I think we don't agree about this, and I think you might understand I value the opinion from embassy and Immigration office more than your opinion which is exactly the opposite.

You might think that when it is not explicitly mentioned it is for the whole 5 years it is not required anymore.

I think just thinking in a logical way is be enough to understand that, just like the fact it is not necessary to repeat a traffic sign every 10 meters, or when forbidding driving with too much alcohol specify hours at which that is forbidden.

i dont disagree in what your saying, but there is no written requirement. If immigration dont want you here, even with a full time visa they can deport you at any time for any reason. But there is still no written requirement. So doesnt matter what 1 or 2 persons say.

I think the visa requirement is enough, and don't need to explicitly say when it is valid.

I agree that nowhere is written when exactly the requirement is valid, not that it is valid for 5 years, nor that it is only valid at moment of application.

This means both of us cannot prove our interpretation.

This was one of the reasons I asked Immigration office and embassy.

I also wanted to know if the 500k still needs to be at the same account, they told me I am free to put the money wherever I want ad long as it still is directly accessible.

And the fact that some things are not explicitly worked out in Thai law and rules, will always work out negative for the foreigner in case of trouble.

thanks that's very reassuring, I thought there was something about earning 1500 monthly but maybe that was a specification of a particular embassy when applying rather than hard requirement
