Hello everybody 🤗

I have a question that I haven't seen an answer to, I might have missed it and if so I am sorry in advance ...

Can I get a Thai driving license with a DTV visa?

I had one as a teacher (it expired already), when I had a work permit, but I am not sure it is the same with DTV.

Any advice would help.

Thanks in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can obtain a Thai driving license with a DTV visa. The requirements include a Residence Certificate, copies of your passport and visa, a medical certificate, and, if applicable, your expired driving license. If your previous license expired within the last year, you may be able to renew it without taking the tests again, while licenses expired longer may require retesting. Requirements can vary by location, so checking with the local Department of Land Transport is advisable.

Yes, you can absolutely get a Thai driving license with a DTV. The key factor isn’t necessarily the type of visa you hold, but whether you can meet the Department of Land Transport (DLT) requirements:

-Residence Certificate

-Passport and Visa Copies

-Medical Certificate

-Expired License: since you had a Thai driving license before as a teacher, bring the expired one along. If it’s been less than a year since it expired, you might just need to renew it without retaking tests (though you’ll still do a reaction test). If it’s been longer, you may need to go through the full process again—theory test, practical test, etc.—but having had one before could still smooth things out.

Practices can vary slightly between different DLT offices across Thailand since they often have some local discretion. 🙏
