TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether one can obtain a residence certificate (RC) in a different province from where their TM30 was filed. Most responses indicate that the RC must originate from the province where the last TM30 was submitted. It is emphasized that while you don't need an RC to buy a car, you will need one to register it in the respective province. One user mentioned that obtaining an RC can take some time, sometimes up to a week, while another shared their experience of receiving one in a day for a fee.

Stay in a hotel one night. Make sure they will file TM30.

Thanks for the comments all, I building here in Isan so want the car registered here as the car is just for this location. Main dealer wants the RC next question would be if I did go to bangkok to get is there a wait time or is it like when I lived in pats and you could get it in one day?

in Bangkok they’ll only issue a residence certificate if you have filed a 90 day report. If on a short term visa you wouldn’t be able to get one.

You don't need a resident certificate to buy a car, you need one to transfer the name in the book.

Your resident certificate should come from the province you will license the car. An immigration office will not give you a resident certificate from another province.

I bought a brand new car last year from a n official dealer (Nissan). I was paying cash and they still required a resident cert.

because they took your paper work to LTO and got the book in your name 😉

stop trying to be a smart arse. You knew what the question was, why try and confuse it?

@Barry *********
not trying to confuse it. If he wants to buy the car, buy the car, drive it back to where ever their home is and get a resident certificate and get a plate for the province he actually lives in. Not a good idea to get a plate from from a different province through some trickery.

Through some trickery? Im buying the car for isan as ive just built my daughter a house here and got my main car for bangkok and work lol so dont worry about the plates wasn't the question

if you have a second residence in isan and want a local car there, then you just need to meet the local requirements for a resident certificate (you need to check with immigration as each office has different requirements) then you are okay.

I would not recommending using resident certificate from a different province from where the car will mainly be, that might turn out to be more headache... Especially considering if you end up with a red plate.

my car is registered in Bangkok and I live in Prachuap. Perfectly legal and did it as Bangkok Police love to ticket out of Provinces Plates. I have a Yellow Book whivh I presented wgen buying so no resident certificate required.

You get a residence certificate from the province where your last TM30 was filed. If you’re away from your home province then where you are staying should have filed one on your behalf. Ask them for a screen print of the search page where your name appears.
