Hi, I am looking to purchase a moto on a visa exempt entry. I know that I can't get the Certificate of residency at Bangkok without a 90 day report.

My question is, if I go to Pattaya and get a Certificate of Residency can I bring that paper back to Bangkok to purchase and register the moto using the out of province CoR or does the registration of the vehicle have to be in the same province as where the Certificate or Residency was issued?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of buying and registering a motorcycle in Bangkok with a Certificate of Residency (CoR) obtained in Pattaya while on a visa-exempt entry. Responses clarify that the CoR is tied to the address from which it is issued; thus, users must complete the registration process in the province where the CoR is issued. There are also mentions of challenges regarding obtaining the CoR on a visa-exempt entry, and the necessity of multiple residency certificates depending on the registration stages.

Why don't you just stick to the rules and rent one?

I'm not breaking any rules, I'm just asking what the rules are so I can plan accordingly. Renting would be much more expensive and not viable.

You can theoretically get a COR from your embassy.

My Norwegian embassy issues a residence certificate at the address at which I am registered in Thailand. I do not know what practice your own embassy has. But if it's enough to just state an address in Thailand, you have the option of getting a residence certificate. But the problem with DLT is that you don't have a Non Immigrant Visa.

This article from Bangkok Post deals with the purchase of a car, but the same documents are required to buy a motorcycle,

Note if a new bike /car you'll probably need to get a second residency cert one issued.

First to buy the bike and start the registration process.

Second when changing to white plates off red.

Each one is valid for only 30 days

You can't use a COR outside of the province it was issued in.

So no you can't.

I've no idea if Jomtien are still issuing a COR on a visa exempt entry.

Many immigration offices have and are stopping issuing them.

I have heard of some recent reports from people that it is still possible. But it would be less viable for me if I need to buy a bike out there as well. Thank you

Your resident certificate is your address. If you get a resident certificate from chonburi it will be your chonburi address. The moto will be registered to that address and province. You will need to complete the process in chonburi as you will be issued a chonburi plate.
