TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can enter Thailand as a tourist multiple times within a year. However, there is no official limit; it ultimately depends on the discretion of the immigration officer you encounter. Frequent back-to-back entries may raise questions about your intentions, and officers may suspect misuse of tourist status for long-term stay. While some have reported entering up to seven times in a year without issues, others have faced questioning after just a few entries. Ensuring you have the required documentation, such as proof of onward travel and sufficient funds, can help facilitate smoother entries.

Some people are pointing out that they've successfully entered 7 times in a single year on a tourist visa or exemption and I have no doubt they are being truthful. However, if you are going to try to pull off something similar to what they have done, then I'd recommend you have a back-up destination plan ready to execute (e.g. Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam etc.) Over the years I've seen numerous posts in this group and other groups, of people being denied entry because an immigration officer deemed that they were trying to live in TL longterm, on a tourist visa or exemption. Also and if you don't already know, you are technically required to have the cash equivalent of 20,000 Baht (currency from any country is fine) in your pocket, an onward ticket out of TL and proof of where you will be staying while in TL. Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

Yes.

No,

It depends (on your passport/nationality, the pattern of your entries/exits and the mood of your Immigration Officer).

I’ll add another comment about my experience this year.

I arrived end of January on a TR visa which I extended 60+30. I then went to Vietnam for the weekend then came back on visa exemption which i extended 30+30. After that I did a solo border run which was a terrible and expensive idea. Little did I know the land border I chose was known for militant IO’s. At first they denied me entry grilling me for my visit history in late 2022 early 2023, and said come back tomorrow (for various reasons I could not) so i gave some guy 5000 baht and he talked to someone in the IO office in which I was then granted entry on another exemption which i extended again 30+30.

After that I went back the UK for a little over a month. I then came back with a TR visa, I know I can get 60 days with exemption now but I thought a proper visa would look better.

Anyway going through immigration at bkk the IO said I didn’t need a tr now as it same length as exemption, he then asked where I was going and I said getting another flight to chiang mai, he warned me about flooding and I said I’m aware thank you then stamped me through.

I’d get a DTV but I don’t qualify as I don’t have a spare £10k just sat there lol.

If that’s what you want, buy a visa

Yes, so long as it doesn’t look like your overall amount of time in the country appears as though you’re trying to defacto stay here long term. But you can visit as often as you like if it is just visiting and you have decent amounts of time out of the country too.

I entered 7 times last year and twice this year so far without visa

No one has a clue. Depends what mood the IO is in.

It’s six times a year by air. Four times a year by overland crossing

That screenshot is well out of date regardless. If it’s still up there then certainly don’t regard anything it says as “gospel”.

no it’s not. Embassies generally know nothing about immigration rules within Thailand. Completely separate government department.

Don’t listen to an embassy about rules for immigration and don’t listen to immigration about rules for obtaining a visa at an embassy.

that's not immigration or embassy site. That site was created by a third party so it is fully usefulness anyway.

That’s the official London embassy website URL.

well, it’s the only printed information I’ve found, and I keep it on my phone just in case.

You need to delete it. There never has been a rule about air entries. There was a rule about land entries but that’s been scrapped now too. If you qualify for visa exempt you’ll get 60 days on entry by land sea or air.

There isn’t a set limit on the number of times you can enter. It’s at the discretion of the immigration officer.
Stéfan ********
There's no actual set limit, BUT, you will be questioned by immigration after a few back to back entries, and eventually refused entry, as they will want you to get a proper visa.

i go 2-3 times a year never any issues

That should be ok. When performing your border bounce, make sure to have all the required documents: ongoing flight (or bus or train), 20k thb in cash and a hotel booking a few days. This is when they are more likely to check these.
Jan ******************
There’s no official limit and you can enter as many times as you like until the IO your standing in front of means that you’re misusing tourist solutions for long term stay in Thailand and need to apply for a proper visa according to your travel patterns.
Paul *******
Yes. Until an Immigration pfficer decides that yiou have spent too mich time in the country and are no longer a tourist and denys you entry,
Stuart *********
You can enter as many times as the immigration officer you hand your passport to will let you enter.

No one can say how many times this equates to as it’s at the individual officers discretion.
