Can you change passports when crossing the land border from Thailand to Laos for a short stay?

Hello, anyone here with dual citizenship who changed passports while crossing the land border between Thailand to Laos? I know you cannot change passports in a "border run". My question reffers to an actual entry to stay in Laos for few days- while I apply for a Visa in the Thai Embassy in Laos.

Thank you for sharing from *real experience*, particularly if its the friendship bridge crossing next to Nong Khai that you went through.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights that changing passports at a land border between Thailand and Laos is not allowed. Users emphasize that one must enter Laos on the same passport that has the exit stamp from Thailand. Therefore, if a person wishes to change passports, it cannot be done through a border run, and the recommendation is to use air travel to change passports instead.

Are you saying exit Thailand and enter Laos on Passport A and then enter Thailand on passport B?

I mean exit Thailand on passport A and entering Laos on Passport B.

Cant be done. You need the exit stamp from Thailand in the same passport you enter Laos on.

Curious why you would want to?

because the visa request (which is the reason I do the journey for) need to be submitted with the passport that has entrance stamp to Laos.

Land borders cannot. I used to fly to KL or Singapore to change passports

You CANNOT change passports at a land border. This is the reason you cannot change passports on a border bounce, because you can't change passports at a land border. You must enter the other country with the same passport that has the exit stamp from the country you just left.

its not necessarily the case. I did already a "border run" or "border bounce" as you call it, and its a special situation of border crossing. I still hope to get other responses!

The rules are pretty clear. When you exit you get a stamp in your passport. You must use that same passport to enter the next country. Same thing when you return.
