My friends want to get second tourist visa in Laos and cross the Laos-Thai border by land. And then after several weeks they plan to leave Thailand by plane.
Are there any rules for people who cross the border by land? Do they need to leave Thailand through land border or airplane would be ok? Please share your experience.
Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When crossing the border from Laos to Thailand by land, the main rule to be aware of is that tourists can only receive two 30-day visa-exempt entries by land in a calendar year. If your friends plan to obtain a tourist visa from a Thai consulate in Vientiane or enter Thailand on a 30-day visa-exempt basis, they can leave Thailand by any means, including air travel, without any restrictions regarding how they exit the country.
The ONLY rule about land crossings is you can only get TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year.
If they are going to get a tourist visa from the thai consulate in Vientiane (or even enter on a 30 day visa exempt entry) they can enter and exit the country any way they want to. There is no rule about it.
