Hello everyone, I plan to flight to Bali to apply for a ED visa.

My plan is to swap passports (my nationality allow option to own 2 passports) and exit Thailand with actual(current) passport and enter to Bali with new one(without any stamp).

Both passports are the same nationality. Then apply for a ED visa. I read, that to swap passports by cross borders by land is not possible but by air it is without a problem.

What is your experience? Thank you for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user discusses their plan to swap passports while flying to Bali to apply for an ED visa. They seek advice on the feasibility of this method, especially compared to land border crossings. Commenters share their experiences and confirm that swapping passports is doable when traveling by air, but caution about potential scrutiny from Thai immigration upon return.

Question is about swapping passport during a flight.

Yes, no problem, you leave with the passport you entered Thailand and swap during the flight to other passport to enter country of destination.

You read correct that you can not to this at land borders as the Immigration checks the exit stamp from the neighbor country.

The discussion:

Using all kind of different visa to live inside Thailand only creates a bigger chance to get questions from Immigration. a Visa is only a sticker in your passport that gives you a certain period of stay IF allowed to enter the country.

Is a nice discussion but off topic.

BTW...what happened to your plans to obtain the Non B business you spoke about in January 2020?

And may I ask...

How many months were you in Thailand in 2019?

No, what you'd do is to get the ED visa in Bali, then fly into Laos. To enter Thailand, you'd cross over by land from Laos (probably from Vientiane, Laos/Nong Khai, Thailand).

thank you for info. I canceled that plans and would like to stay in country by using a ED visa. I don´t intend to work or do anything ilegal but I just think it is not good idea to apply for ED visa with Non B visa and METV history.

how is this related to original question?

Upon your return to Thailand the Thai Immigration Officer will match both of your passports. If you have a history of living in Thailand using various visas, extensions, and border runs be prepared for questions.

I’m dual UK and OZ and have done this many times by air but never by land. Usually it’s because the next country visited gives something additional by swapping passports (eg longer stay, cheaper visa cost) or simply to manage page usage.

I’ve never done anything though where applying for a new visa to the country just left from.
