TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses recent updates regarding visa exemptions to Thailand amid the Covid-19 situation. Notably, it mentions that Hong Kong has been excluded from the 'visa exemption suspended' list. It highlights concerns for various countries affected by visa rules, including Italy and Taiwan, and indicates that individuals with valid visas can still enter the country. Doesn't seem to be in effect yet. A relative of mine and her Indian husband arrived Bangkok a few hours ago. They heard of it during the transit in Qatar and got really worried but her husband was given VOA when arriving and no mentions of any cancel(By the IO' s).

Does anyone have any up to date information whether this health certificate is required if you're only transiting through Hong Kong (from the US to Phuket on a UK passport with a valid retirement EOS)

Thanks James. Cathay says on their website that the certificate is not required for transiting passengers. I was just trying to get first hand confirmation of this.

looking for transit information. Not found yet.

I suggest rerouting ....avoid Hong Kong. Contact your airline. Possible refund too. Which airline are you booked now from US connecting in HK?

There are two very useful download links for all passengers visiting Thailand during the Covid-19 situation:

The T8 health questionnaire:

And IF REQUIRED to obtain your visa:

Was planning to fly from Phnom Penh to toyko via bangkok in a couple of days. I’m ok but my boyfriend has an italian passport (hasn’t been there since 2018), is the visa suspension still an issue if just transiting through? Not sure how they link together if at all....

Would the boyfriend cross into Thailand, or just stay at the international terminal? I would imagine if he doesn't cross immigration he'll be fine.

I'm due to travel to Malaysia for 4 days tomorrow and come back to Bangkok. Has anyone here made that journey in the last few days and had any issues?

And I don't think this thread has much relevance to Malaysia, since they are not one of the countries listed.

The Thai Embassy in Moscow has just posted this statement: “The latest news on the Thai Government’s decision to temporarily suspend visa on arrival for 18 countries DOES NOT affect holders of Russian passports. Russians can still visit Thailand for 30 days without visa.”‬

there are NO issues to people entering or exiting the country with a valid VISA in their passport. The only thing right now is if you hold a passport from italy you can no longer get in on the 30 day visa exempt entry program (showing up without a visa and getting in for free for 30 days)

You can bounce out and back fine. BUT I'd say move your border bounce up and bounce out and back SOON to get another 60 days entry stamp.

It'd be foolish to try maximize your days and wait until you NEEDED to bounce out and back only to find out that some thing changed and you can't. I'd go sooner rather than wait until the end of the month

. I am not gonna let this thread turn into speculation or a wait and see what happens tomorrow. No one has a crystal ball, we get updates when everyone else does. We will have to wait and see. Right now this is the ONLY update that's out about it

I don't understand if they still allow Italians to enter or not. Been working in Thailand since last year and now I'm looking for a new job... And will need to go for a visa run.

I think Benjamin is correct. Must return with a Tourist Visa...not border visa exempt entry. And be watchful for any change in visa requirements.

According to the article, yes, Italians can enter, as long as they have a tourist visa.

They have dropped the entire visa on arrival programme, it's not specific to the countries that were on it. Several countries on it including the small Pacific Islands had zero cases and are less likely to get them than Bulgaria (which being in the EU is pretty likely to increase).

No VOA now, for anyone. Two immigration officers in BKK got the virus, possibly from handling passports, might have played into the motivation.

The countries affected are concerning visa exempt entries are South Korea, Hong Kong & Italy.

The countries that are affected as far as no 15 day visa on arrivals are Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Mexico, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Uzbekistan & Vanuatu.

People from those countries now ALL need to apply for a visa from a thai consulate before they come here...

Seems like it's not in effect yet. Husband of a visiting relative of mine is Indian and they heard of it during the transit in Qatar and got really worried. However they arrived 3 hours ago and her husband was given VOA and the IO didn't mention anything. Maybe won't come into effect until tomorrow?

Russians had 2 different ways to enter Thailand without getting visas beforehand. One - VOA is cancelled, the second, visa exempt stamp 30 days is still OK. Because visa exempt stamps cancelled only for three other countries.

I think we can say the Visa on Arrival program is over. The countries listed are the same ones as the VOA countries. See

sorry, I can not understand. Now for Russian is not possible to enter with 30 days stamp? Only with visa? Even if they come from Malaysia, for example
