Hi everybody. We're thinking of travelling from Vientiane to Udon Thani across the friendship bridge in September. Could you please advise if we can get a Thai tourist visa on arrival at the border with Laos.

We are travelling on a UK and Aussie passport. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travellers from the UK and Australia entering Thailand from Laos via the friendship bridge will receive a 30-day visa exempt stamp, not a visa on arrival. This allows for a stay of 30 days, which can be extended once for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office. However, travelers should be aware of the limit of two land border entries per calendar year for visa exempt entries.

You'll both get 30 days visa exempt entering Thailand at Nong Kai providing you havent already entered twice by land border this year.

I’m not familiar with that entry point but with a UK and Aus passport you don’t get visa on arrival you get a visa exempt entry. Semantics but VOA is a different animal.

You would be stamped in for 30 days and could extend that once for a further 30 days at a local immigration office.

There is a limit of two land border entries for visa exempt entries per calendar year.

You’ll both get a 30 day visa exempt stamp not visa on arrival which is different. I’ve used that border crossing a few times.

Do we just present ourselves at the Nongkhai border checkpoint for the 30 day visa exempt stamp. We are only in Thailand for 6 days. Thanking you.
