Hi everyone, i'm french, i'm in thailand for one month and three weeks. I've got a 30 days visa exemption on arrival. As i'm going in Isan, i'm planning to make 30 days exemption renewal by going in Thakkek in Laos via Nakhon Phanom (pay the laotian visa at the border and go back to Thailand). I've got two questions : 1/ The visa exemption renewal is it still of 30 days when you are entering in Thailand by road ? 2/ How long time i've got to stay in Laos before re-entering in Thailand ? May i'can do it the same day (for example entering in Laos the morning and re-entering in Thailand the afternoon) or i'have to spend one night there ? (I know the Thakkek area is very pleasant but i'have no time for this this time).

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French expatriate in Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption on arrival is planning to travel to Thakkek, Laos, to perform a visa renewal via a border bounce. The questions are whether the renewal remains for 30 days when entering by land and the required duration of stay in Laos before re-entering Thailand. Responses confirm that the visa exemption for French passport holders remains 30 days for both land and air entries, and there is no minimum stay out of Thailand to re-enter, allowing for a same-day return.
As the team have explained. Only need to do a border bounce in Laos if you want to visit Laos or you have already done two 30 day extensions. So a local 30 day extension easy peasy for you
there is no 2 extensions, You get an entry stamp permission to stay, and then an extension, it's a one-time 30 day extension per entry on tourist class visas, visa exempt, etc.
You are going to do border-bounce, there is no "visa-exempt renewal".
Q1. The visa exemption renewal is it still of 30 days when you are entering in Thailand by road ?
-> Visa-exempt entry for French passport holders (and other 54 countries currently) is always 30 days regardless of entering by air or land.
Q2. How long time i've got to stay in Laos before re-entering in Thailand ?
There is no minimum stay out of Thailand to re-enter. Technically, you can do border-bounce in one day.
Just be aware, you only have 2 visa-exempt entries by land per calendar year.
If you haven't applied for 30 days tourism extension on your current entry stamp yet, you can apply for it at the local immigration office where you are staying for a 1900 baht fee.
