How many time can I cross the border to Thailand on foot to get a visa exemption stamp?

I know it use to being twice per calendar year, and six times with airplane.

But someone told me it's not a limit anymore, someone have experience doing this more than two times per calendar year?

TLDR : Answer Summary
There's currently no official limit on how many times you can enter Thailand for a visa exemption stamp, but it is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Many expats report varying experiences, with some encountering no issues even after multiple crossings, while others have faced questioning or have been warned about frequent entries. The trend indicates a stricter scrutiny on frequent border crossings, especially after the visa exemption was extended to 60 days.

Last time I flew into Thailand (couple of weeks ago), they pulled me aside and yelled at me about using a tourist visa, for 10 years. They let me in, it wasn't a big deal, but they are starting to pretend to be more serious.

Why not get a visa?

so if they started yelling at you, I would say that's a big BIG red flag 😃😁

@Nongnuch *******
Not if they let you in. Then is a little red flag.

if you got warned before they let you in, it is definitely possible that you got flagged in the central computer, so the next officer at the border will know that you have been warned before. They don't use their computer systems for nothing

All things are possible... But after getting warned 3 times I am not that worried.

I have been questionned 1 time, only. Why do u come so frequently ?

the fact you got questioned, means your visits show you are not a tourist.

If you don't want to risk to be stopped anytime soon, you should just apply for the correct visa.

Why don’t you get a proper visa?

There is currently no limit. You may or may not be questioned after multiple entries. When entering, have the 3 requirements handy if asked

It's up to the immigration officer

No limit officially, down to individual IO these days, hearing lots of stories of people getting warned who are really not doing anything outside the rules, so must be some kind of pattern they are looking for

@Simon *******
where do you hear these stories? I did not hear a single story from a tourist to Thailand getting questioned.

I can imagine all kind of patterns to distinguish tourists from people for different reasons in Thailand.

from friends when they arrive and also personal experience, all moot once they introduce ETA next year

Interesting, I comment
@Simon *******
and get response from you.

Are you visiting Thailand as a tourist and got questioned already first or second time?

Maybe with ETA introduced, they can stop the non touristic use of visa exempt before the people arrive at the border, easier for both.
Michael *******
I live here and have done for 7 years, but get regular visitors incl family. Agree on the ETA will stop a lot of the BS and clear the swamp……

@Simon *******
the rule is to get the correct visa for your stay, Visa Exempt is for short term tourism entries not for long term stays

Until they tell you that you can't. There is no rule that says how many times you can enter as a tourist. It's 100% at the discretion of the immigration officer you are standing in front of. It might be 2 times until they deny you entry, it might be 5 times.

But the fact is you cannot live in Thailand without a long term visa and they have been cracking down hard since visa exempt became 60 days. More and more people have been being pulled out of line and questioned and more people are being denied entry for abusing tourist entries.

我就是了,每次待在泰國都59天 每次要入境就是被問,最後他們說我要辦簽證,不然不給我入境

exactly this. Boiled down to if it looks like you are just a tourist with frequent visits, then no problem. But, if it looks like you are trying to stay long term on free visits, and without a proper visa for that, then that's when questions will happen, and possibly denied entry too.

Can I stay for a long time on a single tourist visa?(60 days)
Mikkel *******
@Amy *****
no you can't stay a long time on a tourist visa or visa exempt. That's why people get refused entry when doing that. If you want to stay for a long time, then you need an appropriate visa.
