* Im a bit confused with this type of visa :

One-year non-immigrant visa Thailand multiple-entry: This visa allows you to enter and exit Thailand multiple times. If you opt for this route, you can upgrade it to a business visa once your work permit application has been successfully processed.

Can you extend this visa annually and keep the business without a workpermit? Or do you get it only one year to start the business?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification about the one-year non-immigrant multiple-entry visa for Thailand, specifically regarding the ability to extend this visa annually and operate a business without a work permit. The conversation reveals some confusion and suggests that the information they have may be outdated, particularly in light of recent changes to visa policies.

I suspect that is out of date info. A lot of companies and even Embassies are slow to update.

Where is this from? With the expansion of the eVisa system there are no 12 month multi-entry Non-O Visas available.

From the siam legal site. I was told I'm not allowed to link to visa agency sites. Not sure if I'm allowed to link too the site as a comment?

stay away from the siam legal website and this so called "thaiembassy dot com" website. They are full of misinformation, never updated

that's not true at all. Siam Legal is a very respected law firm.

@Kool ******
for being a "respected law firm", a lot of the outdated and wrong info on their websites is a shame

Hmm I thought they looked professional. So this visa does not exist ?

with any type O visa extension you simply get a multi-entry re-entry permit and that makes it multi-entry for that full year the extension is valid. It is that simple.

@Yasmin **********
It did exist, you got 90 days within a year each time you entered Thailand, -now you only get 90 days one time.

Non O-A is basically the same as the previous Non O. You get one year upon each entry within one year, -two years in total.

The main requirements are the same, -minimum 50 years of age and income/funds 65K/800K baht, but the Non O-A requires a mandatory health insurance/certificate and a police check up as well.

Both visas are based on retirement/50 years of age and passive income/funds and you’re not allowed to work or do any business on this basis for your stay.

Okay good to know. Im not 50 so this is not an option.

like Graham said, the multi entry 365-days Non-Imm-O visa were discontinued when the E-visa system got set up. Only the single entry 90 days Non-Imm-O remains available. And you can't work on this visa and its 1-year Extension

@Greg **********
actually the type O visa extension based on Thai wife does allow you to get a work permit and legally work.
Greg ***********
@Kool ******
getting a work permit on a Non-O based on Thai wife is not a problem, however trying to escape the "hire 4 Thais for each foreigner with a work permit" requirement is what the OP is having a problem with

@Greg **********
read my following post concerning that, and the business structure that does not require any Thai employees, or any Thai owners.

@Kool ******
good luck with that, super easy, ain't it? πŸ˜„πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Previously you could get a regular one year 90 days Non O visa with multiple entries which gave you up to 15 months in Thailand. As Graham states this is phased out in the new e-visa system and you only get a 90 days Non O visa with single entry and one year Non O-A visa with multiple entries.

Ah The Non O-A visa is for 50 years and older right? I ask this question because my friend told me that you can start a business in Thailand without hiring the 4 Thai people. And you only need to hire the for Thai people if you want to have a workpermit too?
Greg ***********
@Yasmin **********
if you start a business, a company, in Thaiand, you might not be allowed to work in it, unless you got a work permit and hire 4 Thais. And still then, you are not allowed hands-on in your business, you can't even do the bookkeeping. Only Thais are allowed to do so. You can only teach/arrange, manage and supervise and still need a work permit for doing so. Opening a business and avoiding a work permit so you don't have to hire the required 4 Thais? What did you think?

@Greg **********
I did not think it's true but many people seem to think like this. If you want to have a workpermit you hire the 4 Thai. If you don't have the 4 Thai staffmember you only own the company and get the business visa and not a workpermit.
Greg ***********
@Yasmin **********
the quintessence is - a Non-Imm-B visa is always tied to a work permit. None of it exists without the other
Greg ***********
@Yasmin **********
a business visa is TIED to a work permit. You can't get a business visa without EITHER being employed by a Thai or Foreign company inside Thailand (which requires a work permit) on a minimum salaray (for Europeans 55.000 THB onto which they have to pay taxes) OR have your own 49% owned company, but must be employed by it in order to get a business visa. You got your thinking wired a little bit 😎😁

@Greg **********
you are just a little misguided on the different business structures available in Thailand, and the requirements. A business set up under the BOI, board of investment, structure does not require any Thai employees, except a licensed Thai accountant, and you can own 100% of the company, with zero Thai owners. There is also another option if you are an American citizen, but I won't go into that in detail, but simply saying under that the only requirement is a licensed Thai accountant, and that can even be hired part time. There's another little detail most aren't aware of when trying to set up a fake corporation just to get the long term visa extension. If the company is not making a profit within three years that corporation is dissolved by the government, and closed, ending the visa extension.

Okay I understand now. Thank you. I think there is a lot of mis understanding on the 'streets' when you talk with people and many people say these are 2 different things
Greg ***********
@Yasmin **********
yes you are right, there is a lot of misunderstanding around on the topic on what farang can work in Thailand and on what they cannot, and how the ways work around certain visa categories and what's coming along with a work permit. If you want a good read into this topic, i suggest you check out the website "samuiforsale" dot com. They are giving you a detaiiled and broad overview over ALL the aspects on living and working and getting married in Thailand
Greg ***********
@Yasmin **********
yes you can own the company, and skip the work permit. However then you are not allowed to do anything in your company. No hands on and no managing occupation. you can sit there in your beach chair, sip cocktails and watch your business floating along without any staff πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ and nothing much to do

But ofcourse you still have to hire the 4 thai? What if you have a thai partner who has the majority in the company and he/she does the work?
Greg ***********
@Yasmin **********
of course it is possible that your Thai partner does all the work, while you are enjoying cocktails at the swimmingpool. But what makes you think they would be honest to you ? And why would you front the 2 Million Thai Baht you need to open a company/business, for something you cannnot effectively control?
