Can OA Visa Holders Use Non-Approved Insurance for Extensions in Thailand?

A few months back I read here that an OA visa holder does not have to use the insurance companies who are approved by Thailand as long as they have the insurance certificate filled out by their private insurance. Is this still true and where does one find that form? I apologize if this has been discussed before. I did search the group.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarifies that OA visa holders must use health insurance from approved companies when applying for an extension of their visa in Thailand. While they may use non-approved insurance for obtaining a new OA visa from outside Thailand, the extension process strictly requires coverage from the 13 approved Thai providers.

Do you offer a variety of policies other than the minimal approved policy which is far over priced & practically worthless which are still accepted by immigration

that’s been my experience too. I can get better coverage for less and it still covers me world wide. Some things are unexplainable. You

Hi all I work for Pacific Cross Health Insurance based in bangkok and like Ron Angel said it has to be from an approved Health Insurance provider for the extension. Pm me if you would like a quote.

and IF you return to your home country at end of the second year...you can apply for a New O-A visa but need to show proof of health insurance from either the approved list OR another one by submitting the certificate that it meets the O-A policy requirements.

Thereby allowing you to keep your $$ in your home country and / or provide proof of annual income ...combo too.

@Ron ******
brings up a valid point,

There is a HUGE difference between BUYING a year-multi-Non-O-A visa from a thai consulate in your country where you CAN show proof of being insured by a company other than the 13 thai approved carriers

AND

applying for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office on an existing O-A visa where you CANNOT use any insurance companies other than the 13 thai providers. :O

Two completely different scenarios handled completely different

You cannot use companys NOT on the approved list for extensions of an O-A visa, no matter if you could get the certificate or not. The certificate is only of any use to obtain a NEW O-A visa OUTSIDE of Thailand for a company NOT on the approved list.

Let us know if you are successful, Cigna Global refuse too.
