Hello. So my GF is curruntly on a tourist visa. She came into thailand on a visa on arrival. And extended it (30 + 30) then went to laos to get a tourist visa and extended it aswell so (60 + 30) so thats a totalbof 150 days her visa expires on 22 Sep. We have one last vacation in october 5 - 15. Then she returns home. Would like to know if she will be fine with another visa on arrival. After 22 Sep fly to vietnam then fly to krabi and get a visa on arrival.

Sorry for my spelling mistakes and confusion haha dont know how to explain it other wise.

Thanks for the help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring if their girlfriend, who has been in Thailand on a tourist visa that expires on September 22, can return using a visa on arrival after traveling to Vietnam. Comments emphasize that the issuance of a visa on arrival is at the discretion of the Thai Immigration Officer and that South African nationals have specific entry rules. It's advised to have proof of funds, onward travel, and accommodation to avoid issues upon re-entry.

let's get some terminology out of the way so you two know what you're talking about.

There is NO such thing as a 30 day visa on arrival :O A visa on arrival is for 15 days, it can't be extended for 30 days and it is available to people from 18 countries only.

IF you didn't buy a visa from a thai consulate before you came here and were stamped in for 30 days for free you got in on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Be that as it may. No one is gonna be able to tell you IF you're going to get pulled aside stamping in on a new 30 day visa exempt entry when flying in. It's down to the mood of the immigration officer you're standing in front of when you stamp in.

All you can do is be prepared with the 3-proof-ofz

proof of 20K baht or the equivalent in CASH

proof of onward travel (within 30 - 60 days)

proof of a hotel booking or confirmed lodging.

So it's all up to them. Am i wrong for thinking that my chances are safer if i leave for a month or so because then they won't think that i live in Thailand ?
Tod *********
@Meagan *******
, they really don't seem to count the time out of thailand that much when pulling people aside. If they think you're living here on 30 day visa exempt stamps and 30 day extensions they can question you.

@Tod ********
thank you so much. I apologize for using the incorrect terminology. I understand exactly what i need to do. Basically i just wanted to know what is my safest way. To leave for a month or to stay here and take a chance ?

Hi everyone. I was only accepted into the group this morning, so in this post Marcé is talking about me. I want to know, if i leave Thailabd this week and go to Vietnam for a month and then come back for my holiday, will i then be fine with a visa on arrival ?

Meagan Tolmay only the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you upon arrival will know.

How many months in past 12 have yoi been living in Thailand?

What is your nationality/passport?

South African ???

See Tod Daniels reply below...and be prepared as he says. Good Luck

But flying in is the greater risk of denied entry at airport by Thai Immigration. And carefully select border land crossings. Up to You as my Thai friends often say. Good luck.

2 exempt entries overland per calendar year for SA citizens. In theory, arrivals by air are unlimited, but if officers suspect that she's living here, she may get refused. Try to avoid this by carrying a ticket back home, 20,000 baht in cash and proof of accommodation in Thailand.

@Joost ********
good advice IMHO
James ********
Its all up to the Thai Immigration Officer.

What is the nationality/passport of your girlfriend? Is she South African?
James ********
@Marce ***********
I would not have her fly into Thailand. Greater risk of being denied with her recent history.
@Amornrat *********
would you suggest a border run? She is South African.
