Hey everyone, first of all thanks for welcoming me to the group,

I am currently in Savannakhet with my girlfriend ( not civil union or marriage ) and I have been puzzled about certain visa regulations. I have a non imm B with a work permit but my girlfriend cannot be dependent on my visa as there is no recognized union between us. Today at the Thai consulate in savannakhet she was refused a 60 days tourist visa and the consulate said it was because she had done too many. However, she has only done one 60 days tourist visa in 2019, one exemptions of 30 days coming in from Laos, and another exemption of 30 days, after leaving Thailand for a month, and arriving on an international flight from Paris.

The consulate made it very clear that her only option to re enter Thailand was a transit visa to get her belongings and leave, with no possibility of return before 2020. We eventually took this option after a long debate with consulate staff.

My question is, in her situation would there have been any alternative? And more importantly now that she has a 30 day transit visa is there anything we can do so she can stay longer or will she actually have to stay outside Thailand until 2020?

Sorry for the long text but wanted to be as detailed as possible and we would appreciate any serious advice or knowledge on the situation.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking advice for their girlfriend, who cannot obtain a tourist visa due to having previously been denied and having a non-recognized relationship. They encountered issues at the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, where she was issued a transit visa but denied a tourist visa. The community suggests alternatives, including applying for a tourist visa from different locations, considering a student visa, or exploring long-term visa options such as the elite or investment visa. However, there are concerns about the limitations of her entry history and the overall strictness of the consulate.

And just like that we're done. Thanx one and all (y)

Good Luck to the O/P's significant other. At least they got 30 days. That gives you time to sort out some other option ..

I think when u come back to Thailand even with transit Visa, u can apply for student Visa. Or maybe u can try apply for tourist Visa in Penang

Savannakhet has been all over the thai related forums and groups on the inter-web as NOT being as soft touch as they used to be.

She got a 30 day transit visa so she can at least get IN to thailand. I'd say try the thai consulates in Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi Vietnam

do you think you're going to go try Hanoi or no?
Bjoern **********
Tod Daniels precisely. They did say though I would get a 30 day on arrival by plane but who can promise me that right?!

@Benjamin *****
they mean they put the tourist visa in their passport then stamped it like this :O
Bjoern **********
@Benjamin *****
that’s very true. I’m only saying I would not advise to go to Ho Chi Minh

If they issue a visa, which they later voided out, there's nothing stopping a person from applying elsewhere, like Hanoi, or Bali, KL, or (if things were more calm), Hong Kong.

@Benjamin *****
a void stamp on the 60 days tourist visa they gave me. Meaning, not valid. See my updated post above
Benjamin ******
@Bjoern *********
What do you mean by "void"? What did they void?
Bjoern **********
Benjamin Hays to try the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh. They gave me a void, same conditions as op. I met every condition, had everything with me but still. Will try to get in by air tonight. I have a receipt from my school for a paid course in Thai. The ministry of education has changed rules and the only reason why I’m not on an ed visa yet is because of the paperwork which needs to be changed

@Bjoern *********
and you met the proof of funds, proof of onward travel and you were still denied a tourist visa in HCMC? What was your previous entry history like?
Benjamin ******
Bjoern Fourgirl Not to do what? Get a transit visa? Or try to get a tourist visa from HCMC?
Bjoern **********
Tod Daniels I’m here under the same conditions and was denied. I advise not to do this in Ho Chi Minh.

Here's my opinion:

1. The issue of the visa is at the discretion of the immigration officer, and they have the final say. A tourist is only in Thailand for a limited time, and your girlfriend should get the proper visa for her stay.

2. There is nothing stopping your girlfriend from trying to get a single entry visa from someplace else, such as Vientiane or HCMC. She may still get denied.

3. A Multiple Entry tourist visa can be acquired from your home country, or from a consulate in Australia

4. If money isn't a problem, then either a five year elite visa (at $15,000 USD, I think), or an investment visa (10M THB) can be acquired.

5. IF your girlfriend hasn't used up both of her land crossing (which may have happen), she can cross back by land.

6. She may be able to enter by Air for another 30 day visa exemption. She has "unlimited" entry by air.

My final advice: her time is up here as a tourist, and she needs to find the right visa for her needs.

She could have walked away and got nothing, then tried a land entry visa exemption which would get her 30 days and another 30 with an extension.
Benjamin ******
It sounds like she burned through both land entries

doesn't matter the nationality, you're NOT married, she can't get a visa because you have one
James ********
But they really love each other, doesn't that count?
Dominic *****
Any other stay history before 2019?

What nationality would help
