Speaking for a friend : My friend from Canada without his 60 day tourist visa . He was told it was approved and was back logged . He arrived and was given the 45 day visa . As it turns out he received his 60 day tourist when he checked his email when he arrived at his hotel here in Samui. He went to immigration to get his tourist visa stamp but was told , according to their computer , he had refused his 60 day visa , which he didn't have yet . So now this will force him to do border bounce as he plans on staying until the end of March. Is it still possible to have his 60 tourist visa stamped ? Or is it too late ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend from Canada arrived in Thailand and received a 45-day visa instead of the expected 60-day tourist visa due to a backlog. Although he received approval for the 60-day visa shortly after arriving, the immigration office indicated that he had refused it, leaving him with the option of a border bounce if he wishes to stay until the end of March. It is clarified that he cannot convert his current visa to the 60-day one within the country; however, he can extend his 45-day visa exempt entry by 30 days for a fee, and after that, he must exit and re-enter Thailand to properly utilize his 60-day visa.

Your friend is not the first person to have this happen to

The immigration office was 100% correct (y) IF he wants to get that 60 day entry he needs to exit/re-enter the country.

Now the upside is, he's already in on a 45 day visa exempt entry AND he can extend that by 30 days for 1900baht so that's 75 days

ALSO

the eVisa he got from Canada is valid fro entry to thailand for 90 days,

SO he could stay the 75 days he's allotted on this visa exempt entry (45+30) and then bounce out and back to get the 60 day tourist visa entry (and he can extend that for 30 days for 1900baht too)

What he can't do is get the 45 day free entry stamp changed to a 60 day tourist visa entry INSIDE the country. He entered without presenting the eVisa when he stamped in (for what ever reason) and that means to use it he has to exit/re-enter showing that PDF file when he stamps back in to use the visa
