How can I apply for a DTV visa while in Vietnam and extend my stay there?

I’m a solo traveler and I need to figure out how to get a DTV visa to get back to Thailand. I originally came in to Thailand on a 90 day tourist visa. I then extended another 30 days. I left the country and went to Malaysia for about a month. I came back into Thailand on a 60 day tourist no visa. I left again and came back for another 60 days. I’m currently in Vietnam but I have to get a DTV visa per Thailand immigration. I was told by Thailand Immigration agent I can do this while I’m in Vietnam. So I only have a week in Vietnam. I want to extend in Vietnam to give me more time to get this done. However I cannot found any information on how to extend in Vietnam. Any advice is greatly appreciated. You can do a border run tru a travel agent either way you have to leave the country. There are no extensions.

Both Cambodia and Laos are feasible locations for DTV applications and as mentioned by others you get sufficient length of stay.

I highly recommend Thai Visa Centre to help with the DTV applications. They managed our applications (myself and dependents) in just about a week. They can also advise which Thai embassy is better to apply at. Write to

I’m currently in Vietnam visiting and I have been thinking about going to Malaysia again (my last visit was in April 2025 for a week). I am thinking about going back for a month or more. I know I can get 90 days. Maybe that will give me time to figure this out.

Baz Wallace do you know if it's possible to leave Vietnam after a 90-day stay and then get approved for another 90-day visa once we leave and reapply? Or is there a certain amount of time we should wait ? U.S. passport

No set waiting time..

However I don't believe you can apply online for another visa while still currently in Vietnam..

You have to exit and then apply online and wait for the processing times... usually around 4 to 5 working days ..

Unless you speak to a visa agent and get some urgent processing done which does cost extra money..

I suggest you contact Emily Visa (She has a profile on Facebook)and ask her about options..

She is a reliable and trustworthy visa agent in Vietnam.

You cannot extend while still in Vietnam..

You need to exit and apply online for another Vietnam visa..

Not sure what passport you hold but you may be better off going to Cambodia as they have slightly more friendly visa options and visa on arrival for most passports.

Phnom Penh is nice city so I suggest you check that out..
