What are the options for renewing a Nicaraguan tourist visa in Thailand and alternative embassies?

RENEWAL - TOURIST VISA. Dear community, thanks for all the great posts. I'd like to share fresh info on visa renewal, and I need your inputs on this, pls.

The case is, that my gf is a Nicaraguan citizen. She got a 60 days tourist visa in from the Thailand embassy in Denmark (where I'm from). We meant to stay in Thailand for a short time before moving on to Indonesia, but have decided to stay in Thailand for a year, if possible. Siam Legal's advise on the "Nicaraguan case" is to have two x 60 days visa renewal at immigration offices in Penang, Bali etc.. I forgot to ask if prior to this, she should go for a simple renewal at the Bangkok Immigration office?

To extend further, they suggest for a 5 month tourist visa at the embassy in her home country, but there is no such thing in Nicaragua, and Siam Legal has no ideas if that she can apply for the 5 month tourist visa at an alternative embassy.

However, they suggest to look into the study-Thai option, and Id love to hear your experiences on this in regard to this particular context.

I just had a quick talk with a well reputed agent, suggesting, that the visa can be renewed "several times", using different embassies/countries for this. Any inputs and recommendations on this, and above 3 questions, will be most appreciated.

Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around renewing a tourist visa for a Nicaraguan citizen currently in Thailand. She has a 60-day tourist visa from the Thai embassy in Denmark and wishes to stay longer. Suggestions include checking for a quick renewal at Bangkok Immigration, spending time in countries like Penang or Bali to apply for new tourist visas, and possibly pursuing a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa at nearby embassies, despite complications due to Nicaragua not having a Thai embassy, as well as possible visa requirements. The community emphasizes the importance of exploring all options and having a backup plan.

We have decided to go to Penang for a couple of days, to sort things out. This is my first run by air - you buy a single or return..? And will the Malaysian immigration care?

Nicaragua isn't on the list of prohibited countries for either Lao or Malaysia so she shouldn't have a problem pulling single entry tourist visas from the consulates there

Cheers Tod. Appreciated. Seems we will get familiar with those two countries then. I seem to remember Indonesia is good also?

-- I have know of no one from Nicaragua in Thailand.. I think it is rare.. However, many people will give you advice from their persons experiences which may not be applicable to you are your gf.. Be careful of that . I would recommend doing whatever you decided but also have a plan B. Bali is nice if in emergency -- except they have that pesky volcano problem presently.

I have had no problem.. Most people have no program and I doubt your gf will have a problem. I too have the stupid month lease (recently renewed). I also have a plan B which is like Bali. I think you will be fine.. just caution about about advice you receive. People with different passports have different experiences.

Cheers Terary, yeah, Bali was the original destination! What sucks is, that we have just signed a 12 months contract on a condo.. trusting "visa is nooo problem!".. well, I still hope so:-/

Sounds like Siam Legal doesn't have a clue. There is no "5 month tourist visa". There is a "Multiple Entry Tourist Visa" which can be obtained in a persons home country IF it has a Thai embassy or consulate, i.e. not available for everyone.

Just a little correction, didn’t say 5 months tourist visa. I said 6-month METV.

, I understand, alternative could be the Thai consulate in Australia, several reports of people got one, or Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, one report that he got one. These are the only two known for not asking residency when apply for METV.

And note their are some pretty steep requirements for getting a METV. For example, this from the Thai consulate in Los Angeles:

• Bank statement showing a minimum of US$7,000

• Letter from employer verifying employment

• Copy of airline tickets (e-tickets or itinerary showing confirmed flights) - tickets should show multiple entries

• Copy of hotel reservation

• Fee is $200

Yes, and I agree. This is the normal way to conclude. Its a tough one though, to travel from Bangkok to Mexico for this, and beware, that Nicaraguan citizens need a visa to enter Mexico as well.. so, what I'd like to learn is, if a case like this could open for an slighter friendlier solution, allowing her to do this at an embassy closer to Thailand. I realize, there is only a clear answer if you are working in immigration or have the experience.

If their is no Thai Embassy in the country, one of the neighbor countries can be used, for Nicaragua it will be the Thai Embassy in Mexico.

Yeah, surely that what they're referring to. But surely, this can not be exclusive for those with a Thai embassy in their home country..?

Okay, first off you can NEVER renew any visa. They are issued , you use them, and they expire, end of story.

She can go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a new single entry tourist visa (like she got in Denmark). That would give her 60 days when she enters the country and she could extend that by 30 days. Then she would have to go to a thai consulate again and get another single entry tourist visa.

@Mads *******
she could probably pull quite a few tourist visas if she jumped around from consulate to consulate and didn't hit the same one back-2-back over and over.

Understood! And in your opinion, how many times can she repeat this, and - I suppose - at different immigration offices/countries?
