A colleague is due to receive her initial 90-day Non-B stamp on Monday and already has her work permit. We have been told that she must then wait 45 days before she can apply for the one-year extension. Is this correct, or is it possible to apply for the extension at the same appointment?

Her husband also wants to apply for a Non-O dependant visa from outside Thailand. Can he apply while she has the initial 90-day Non-B, or must he wait until she receives the one-year extension?

In Bangkok, you can apply when you have 45 days or less left on your permission to stay. Some other larger areas also allow 45 days early, but the general rule in Thailand at most immigration offices is that you must wait until you have 30 days or less left, so most places would have to wait 2 months.

She'll need to wait 45 days in some locations, 30 in others. Bangkok is 45. The husband should be able to apply now but he will need the support of the company to do so
