What are the new teachers supposed to do to get their NonB? We can’t let them do border runs because they would have to do quarantine.
Great knowledge is appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community is discussing the challenges new teachers face in obtaining their Non-B visas due to ongoing border restrictions and quarantine requirements resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Users express concerns about the feasibility of border runs and suggest that there may be an internal process for visa applications at immigration instead of requiring travel to consulates. However, they highlight complications such as the necessity of obtaining WP3 forms from outside Thailand, which are essential for acquiring the first Non-B visa.

Maybe visas applications will be allowed internally but the labor department dont connect with immigration and say wp3 have to be made from outside of Thailand.
You need wp3 in order to get 1st non b visa so it is a catch 22 if they don't read from the same sheet!
. I'm not in this situation but what the Thai authorities should really understand is that THEY need the foreign teachers and workers, otherwise these positions would not be available. It's a two-way street, but for some reason they want to make life difficult for the individuals which THEY need and which will enhance the economy of THEIR country. This especially for English language teachers. I've taught English Language in Australia to Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Malaysian students. Not ONE Thai. Go to Philippines. They speak better English than most English people. All these countries make it priority for their people to be able to compete in the world market. Thailand doesn't consider it important, so the quality English teachers are told (in normal times) to take a mini van ride to some Godforsaken border just so they continue working in Thailand, improving Thai education. That's my rant for the day! Over and out
I feel you, I did work at a school here for a couple of years. I understand how much of a pain in the arse, it is to do all the border runs, queing up for hours at embassies , then queing up at immigration, making sure all the paperwork is correct, having to go back again because of new paperwork that is needed that wasnt required before. 2 years was enough for me.
The immigration and visa system is well out dated here. Extensions every year, 90 day reports, they could do away with all that. Jeez its 2020 and they still require huge amounts of paperwork.
This could all be done online.🤦♂️

I think the actions released Wednesday will raise as many questions as it answers. Border Run and Visa Runs cannot yet be conducted. Immigration alone cannot change Thailand's Border Policy - it is Closed. There will still be the Thailand entrance requirements of $100,000 USD Covid-19 Insurance, a 14 day Quarantine. Plus neighbor countries will have restrictive policies including their own 14 quarantine. But actually are likely to retain closed borders.
Therefore any Visa or Border run that requires exiting and reentering Thailand simply will not happen

Good summary. As long as land borders remain closed, the game has completely changed. Expecting no change to that in 2020.
if we end up needing the letters, we all can flood the embassies with emails demanding them like last time. When this all started lots of embassies originally refused to give the letters then they caved and started giving them.
- Immigration would have to seriously modify and / or use waivers to not require exiting and reentry... Immigration is too rigid to allow for such a thing.
