Hi all,

My boyfriend(Russian nationality) and me ( German nationality) came to Thailand from Bali, where we have been living for about one year and planning to stay longer.

Now, the news reached me, that Indonesia is about to close borders for one month. This would mean, that we will not be able to return within the 30 days we got in the stamps.

Question: Is there a way to extend the visa we received for another aprox. 10 days due to this corona virus situation?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about extending their visa in Thailand due to potential border closures in Indonesia caused by the coronavirus. Responses clarify that the German passport holder can apply for a 30-day extension, while the Russian boyfriend's ability to extend depends on his entry method. If he entered on a 60-day tourist visa, he can extend it for another 30 days; if on a visa on arrival or bilateral agreement, he may only get a 7-day extension.

He because he's got a russian passport cannot get anything other than a 7 day extension denied stamp on his 30 day entry stamp

You CAN get a 30 day extension for 1900baht,

You can apply for your extension when ever you want to at most immigration offices because they ADD the 30 day extension on to your current expiration date.

Your russian b/f needs to wait until his stamp is almost expiring to get a 7 day extension denied stamp. That stamp starts the day you apply for it and if you do it early you lose the days on your original stamp

Oh, I guess I was just in time then, if that's true. Yes I did go into Cambodia, and walked around the city district exploring near the airport for 3 hours, then back onto the flight to BKK

Dunno if this would apply to your bf, but the other day I flew to Phnom Penh, Cambodia at 3pm and flew back into Thailand at 10.30pm, and got another 90-day stamp for my multiple entry visa. Airasia DMK-PNH-DMK

Thanks! Not sure what to do.. will probably have to leave to any other asian country which is still open and then travel back to Indonesia, once the borders are open :(

A russian can enter Thailand using either a visa on arrival (good for 15 days), a bilateral agreement (NOT a visa exempt; good for 30 days), OR a single entry tourist visa (good for 60 days). (source:

Which one did he enter?

For YOU, the German passport holder, yes; you can apply for an extension of stay based on being a tourist, which will add another 30 days to your existing stamp.

For your BOYFRIEND, that depends on how he entered. If he entered on a 60 day tourist visa, he can extend it for another 30 days, if he entered on a bi-lateral agreement or visa on arrival, he can not extend it.

Have your boyfriend look at his passport and see which stamp he has.

Thanks! I will have to check what kind of visa he got on arrival, we entered after the VOA was stopped last week, so he must have either the bi-laterial agreement or..? The tourist visa, he would only get if he would have applied in advance, am I right?
