Hello! I will be making the move to Bangkok from the U.S. soon with my daughter. My question is can I come over on the education visa and then switch to the dtv visa? I know I have to apply outside the country for that one. Which country is best to do that from?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user moving to Bangkok with their daughter is inquiring about the possibility of starting with an education visa (ED) and then transitioning to a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV). The consensus from comments suggests that it is not possible to convert an ED visa to a DTV within Thailand and that the DTV must be applied for from outside the country. Recommended places for applying include Southeast Asian countries, with Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia highlighted as affordable options. Additionally, obtaining a guardian visa for the user while the daughter has an ED visa could be a viable alternative.
Is your daughter getting an ED visa or are you getting an ED visa? You can’t convert from ED to DTV within Thailand. If she’s getting an ED visa, you can just get a guardian visa. However, the guardian visa requires the same level of savings as the DTV visa (500,000 THB).

You can’t. Apply for it there in your country of residence.

If your daughter is primary school age and above, she can get an ED and you go on a guardian visa. This will be tremendously helpful to get a bank account as the school will help provide you with paperwork. Once that's done you can switch over to dtv anytime.

The best place to apply might change depending on when you apply. Keep an eye on approvals and rejections in this group. Find approvals with your similar case and when you're ready apply there.

Why not just apply for the DTV first?
You can apply at any country for the DTV, most affordable countries in SEAsia are Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia
Just be prepared to stay there a month for the processing time…if it gets processed sooner it’s a win win
