Can I apply for a Thailand DTV visa without an employer confirmation for working abroad?

Hi all, I’ve been in the group for a while and had a question. Currently, I’m living in Thailand on an ‘educational’ visa, working remotely. I want to apply for the DTV around September, from my home country. However, my employer doesn’t actually know I’m working abroad, and I don’t think they’d allow it either. In other words, I won’t be able to provide a confirmation letter stating that I’m allowed to work abroad.

What I do have is an employment statement that shows I’m working remotely. It doesn’t explicitly mention that I’m allowed to work abroad, but it doesn’t disprove it either. My question is: Would this be sufficient for the application? And does it matter that I’ve been on an educational visa previously? Once this visa expires, I’ll apply for the DTV.

Hope to hear from you all!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user currently on an educational visa in Thailand wants to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) but is concerned about not having an employer confirmation letter stating they can work abroad. They possess a general employment statement that mentions remote work but lacks specific permission for international work. Responses suggest that while a specific statement about working remotely from Thailand is ideal, some individuals have successfully applied with generic documents. The user's previous educational visa status should not negatively impact the DTV application, as many have transitioned from educational to digital nomad visas without issue.

just ask HR to get you a certificate of employment that also states that you can do your work remotely. it does not have to be more specific.

your letter do not need to say anything except

"working remotely (work from home)"...

I think you'd be better off trying with soft power reason, unless you're willing to spend the money to try with what you have knowing it might be rejected.

From other comments many have stated their letter from employer stated specifically they were allowed to work remotely from Thailand. It probably depends on the particular embassy you apply to. As for moving from Ed to DTV others have done it and I do not think the MFA are checking that you have been working illegally in Thailand

Typically it is best to have the letter state you have permission to work remotely from Thailand, but you can try with something generic. I am sure it has worked for some and maybe not for others. All depends on the reviewer
