Hi

I have a question regarding work permits and dependent visas.

I am a danish national, 45 years old.

I have a child here in Thailand, but I’m not with his mother anymore but my name is on his birth certificate.

Can I get a dependent visa without needing paperwork from his mom?

Also I’m planning on taking a 2 year trainee program in pedagogy, is there any way that could be used to obtain a work permit for working in schools here? Or is it a bachelor degree only? With no exceptions?

Thank you for your time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual, a Danish national, is inquiring about obtaining a dependent visa for their child in Thailand without involving the child's mother, given that their name is on the birth certificate. Additionally, they are interested in whether a 2-year trainee program in pedagogy could allow for a work permit in schools, or if only a bachelor's degree is accepted for such permits. The comments provide mixed responses: some clarify the requirements for dependent visas involving parental rights and legal status recognition, while others emphasize the necessity of having a university degree for teaching roles.

why does everybody give
@Michael *****
wrong information?

your name on the birth certificate is not enough for Immigration in order to grant you a "dependant visa". Your parental status needs to be acknowledged by a Thai family court

You can get Thai child NON-O 3 month visa if your kids mom will go to immigration with you to take pictures with the kid, and after can extend for one year. Must have money in your account for 60 days before applying.

With thai child follow non o visa, you can just make work permit with it. No need to change to business.

it's partially wrong advice, because he is missing the most important part. You need a family court order to be the legal father of the child. Your name on the birth certificate is not enough

@Nongnuch *******
that is if he does without wife. If wife go with, not needed. Birth certificate is enough.

@Oleg **********
How would you know? Did you do this procedure by yourself? The birth certificate is not enough for most Immigrations - it could however be Immigration specific
Oleg ***********
@Nongnuch *******
birth certificates not give 50% custody, or court for custody. unless people were married. It is enough for visa without marrying or any court.

yes! For years. Plus I do for other people all the time…

How old is the child? Do you have legal parental rights?

He’s 7 years old, no paternal rights as we were never married.

I do support him financially every month though.

Michael Kjær there are 2 options to get parental rights, either through the court which takes a long time or by mutual consent. Mutual consent usually requires both the mother and child to agree and you can do at the local amphur as your kid is old enough. Without either of these I don't think you can use the kid to get a visa

Does the child live with you, and under 20 years old? No, you can not teach without a university degree, except in very very limited occupations where you have gained, through decades of experience, recognized professional standing in your field, like a pro soccer player/coach, or a pro basketball player/coach, etc.

No, he lives with his mother. But I support him financially.

True, I didn’t look at it that way.

check with immigration. I'm not sure what they require to prove it, and why you would have to be in Thailand to do it. If the child is not living with you, you could financially support him from anywhere in the world couldn't you? This is how immigration will look at it, but then again, I am not exactly sure. I do know it makes a big difference if the child isn't physically living with you.
