TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the DTV visa in Thailand, cryptocurrencies are not accepted as proof of financial stability or self-sufficiency. Applicants must prove they have a minimum of 500,000 THB (or equivalent) in a personal bank account, and only traditional forms of currency and savings are accepted. There are future plans to allow tourists to use cryptocurrencies for payments, but this does not currently apply to visa applications. The discussion highlights the challenges faced by applicants regarding crypto holdings and the need to convert to fiat currency for visa purposes.

Yeah, crypto is good, or show enough pop bottle empties collected for return that's equivalent to the GDP of your country.

Its really bizarre the questions sometimes. What part of BANK ACCOUNT balance is problematic to understand.

I'm currently in Thailand for a month, considering moving here. I just happened to spot one place in Bangkok that accepted crypto.

Also no capital gains tax on crypto here.

I would avoid converting crypto to Fiat currencies unless you absolutely have to. But like others have mentioned here, probably near impossible to include crypto as proof of wealth for visa application πŸ˜•

I’m thinking the same to move her & not pay taxes on crypto, but we can’t get a bank account to sell our crypto into until we get a retirement visa at 50, I’m still going to do the move anyway

You can get a bank account when you get a visa that matches your purpose of stay

be prepared for a bit of a culture shock. Very third world here in many places, I will never complain about uneven pavements in the UK ever again πŸ˜‚

But it's just good to get away from the insanity of the UK.

For sure there are local rules and customs to get used to, but the whole place just has a happier, freer feeling to it. So far anyway πŸ™‚

What makes you think Thailand is very third world? I think development in Thailand is not below that of UK.

Not recognised towards the 500k but if your business's has something to di with it you could include it in your remote work portfolio

The requirements are clearly spelled out 500,000THB or equivalent in your home currency in a personal account in your name. Savings or cheque only. Anything else is generally not accepted.

However, this may change at some point in the future and they may accept Crypto as they are soon letting tourists pay with Crypto.

"TouristDigiPay Let foreign tourists convert crypto into baht to spend at stores in the country to stimulate tourism through Thai digital asset service providers. Prepare for an 18-month trial, expected to start in the 4th quarter of 2025, while Kasikorn launches Q Wallet to support"

Crypto holdings made my interview very very challenging. Spent hour proving that I was self sufficient without it. Should have not mentioned it.

It's accessable fiat in a bank, even fixed deposit investment accounts don't qualify.

Same for the ltr crypto arrests, defi or investment returns not counted. Even when massively over the requirements.
