TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the possibility of using a new passport if you are running out of pages in your current passport that contains your DTV visa. Users suggest that even if you transfer to a new passport, you may need to carry both passports if the DTV visa is an older paper version. Additionally, it's noted that new entries into Thailand will be stamped in your new passport.

Why not simply apply for a new passport instead of consciously putting yourself in a complicated situation ?

The DTV is a PDF file. But if you have and old paper visa, then you can travel carrying both passports, they say.
