For the DTV visa extension can you show a foreigner bank account or does it have to be a thai bank account in Bangkok?

TLDR : Answer Summary
For the DTV visa extension in Thailand, it is acceptable to use a foreign bank account, provided it contains a minimum of 500,000 baht equivalent, held for at least 30 days prior to applying for the extension. There are concerns about the exchange rate affecting eligibility, and some expats advise against extensions, suggesting a border run instead.
I meant it’s not even logical to even think that based on it would prevent so many and more so because of how much harder it is to open a bank account here!
What im more curious about is how they made it to another country 🤣

The extension is basically a whole re application process. Just do the boarder run

Dont do an extension.. just do a border bounce. Please dont make it harder for yourself.

My understanding is you can't get a Thai bank account in a DTV visa.
but yes if they've already got a Thai bank account then it makes it much easier.

As long as the funds are in the account for 30 days before you apply for the 180 day extension it can be a foreign or thai bank account.
Pay attention to the exchange rate,
Someone was denied because the rate between when they got the DTV issued and then 6 months later when they tried for the extension was different and it wasn't 500K baht
I heard immigration prefers 500K in a Thai account and might deny your application if it's in a foreign account or send you on a wild goose chase demanding authenticated bank statements and so forth.

Also you aren't granted your extension right away from what I've seen. Better to do a border bounce or spend the weekend in a nearby city
Well, something like that. Whether it's 30 or 40 or 50 percent I don't know, but it's a significant percentage.
Yes, some completely foreign families come here on the DTV but I can't see them living here for 5 years. It's not a stable lifestyle. Besides, it's a new visa so let's see how long they last. For young families wanting to experience something new or going on a sabbatical for a bit of fun, sure for Russians and Ukrainains with an uncertain future it could be more long term but not for other westerners.
Different if you're married to a Thai and have a house and everything you can simply switch to another visa if the going gets tough on the DTV.

99.9% certainly not. Many DTV holders have an existing connection to Thailand and are simply converting to the DTV for now as each entry is for twice as long as previous multiple entry visas. I'd say half of DTV holders have an existing connection with Thailand and thus a Thai bank account.
the point I was making is it’s ridiculous to think you would have to have a Thai bank account, and can’t use your original because it would prevent people from extending.
Also considering how much harder it is for DTV holders to open one in the first place.
So the answer is any bank account so long as you have the required funds

Anonymous participant 315 Some overseas applicants have maintained a Thai bank account when they lived their previously.
you completely missed my point. If owning a Thai bank account was a requirement it would rule out 99.9% of the people all around who would want to apply for a DTV and never been.
To even not apply basic logic here from OP is a bit silly

Anonymous participant 315 ahhh ok i get it..i misread your post..Yes, vast majority would not have a DTV if a Thai account was needed.
Vast majority, no. Maybe 50%. Thailand is the kind of country where most expats have an existing connection to the country...I can't imagine too many western families moving over here given how difficult it is to find work unless you're a teacher, the very small likelihood of attaining permanent residency or citizenship and always been seen as a tourist.
Most families coming on the DTV are probably only staying a year or two definitely not permanently.
30 days is not true, it all depends on the embassy you are applying from.

Anonymer Teilnehmer 315 EXTENSION. you dont do an extension at any embassy. you do it at your local immigration office. and the official and written down rules are 500k for 30+ days in any bank account.
he’s talking about how long the money has to be in the bank account for
Dany ********
Anonymer Teilnehmer 315 i dont understand your reply. you were talking about „embassy“. Will is talking about „extending“ which has nothing to do with any embassy.
you need 500k equivalent in any bank worldwide. for 30+ days before the extension! thats a fact and written regulation.
Will ************
Anonymous participant 315 as my previous comment to extend your entry in Thailand you MUST have 500k baht equivalent minimum in your bank account anywhere in the world for at least 30 days before the application date of extension
yes i extended my DTV like 2 months ago. i also posted a few reports about the process in this group. it took me 3 visits to the IO to have all documents ready. but if you know what they want then its easy to do.
