TLDR : Answer Summary
The original question inquires whether a bus ticket out of Thailand would be considered acceptable proof of onward travel upon entering the country as a visa-exempt traveler. Responses highlight that airlines may have their own policies regarding this, and that bus tickets may not be viewed as valid evidence of exit since they often do not represent international travel. Some users suggest checking with the embassy for quicker tourist visa options, while others share personal experiences indicating that they have entered Thailand without being asked for proof of onward travel.

We left Melbourne 2 weeks ago without a exit from Thailand and we weren’t asked

We will get 30 extension next week

Not once in 35 years have customs asked about it entering Thailand on a VOA.

That's because it's Immigration that grant you entry and it probably wouldn't be VoA but Visa Exempt to get your 30 day entry stamp πŸ˜‰

You might be surprised how quick the Embassy can issue a Touristvisa, now the high-high season is over.

Check with the Embassy.

Your airline is the one who might ask, so contact them and ask them what their policy is for those flying to Thailand without a visa.

Most bus tickets are not actually international travel and are just to the city on the Thai side of the border, and this does not count as proof of leaving Thailand. Some also may require it to be a plane ticket.

your comments are solid gold: clear, concise, informative and, as far as I can judge, accurate. Good on you. πŸ‘
