When applying for a soft power DTV would a statement from a brokerage account (JP Morgan) work or does it need to be a savings account or checking account?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a soft power DTV in Thailand, a brokerage account statement (such as from JP Morgan) is generally not acceptable. The funds need to be in a bank account, either savings or checking, in the applicant's name, as these accounts ensure that the money is readily available at all times. Requirements may vary depending on the specific guidelines of the country, with some necessitating a minimum balance.

The money have to be readyly available at any time, so only bankaccount count.

Ex. if you have a accident, you would need the money to pay for hospital.

can I cross out the account number? I can imagine that sort of thing getting into the wrong hands this way.

No, you are giving you informations to a governmental office, not to a doggy agent.

The Immigration may need to check if that account really belongs to you.

Must be a bank account in your name only. Not a brokerage account.

Do we know if PayPal balances count, James?

they don't.

Ah. So I assume then that having deposits into a bank *from* PayPal won’t count as towards the 500k balance?

Or is still counts, it just needs to be in the bank, even if it was moved across right before applying?

that depends on the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you are going to apply. There's variations of the financial requirement...be sure to check the website... And read the posts about getting the DTV visa in the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the country where you are applying.

wonderful 👍. BUT we are seeing the BB brokerage account not approved in many Thai Embassies and Consulates. Especially in SE Asia.

I was saying that I would use a bank instead of a brokerage account

Brokerage won’t, it will be up to the country you apply in as to what they will accept . Some want 6 months with a minimum balance of 500k equivalent baht.
