Hi. We're going to apply Monday in Chiang Mai for the the Non 0 retirement Visa, to get the first 90 days stamp. While waiting 15 working days for approval, we understand we can't travel outside Thailand, but what about within Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can travel freely within Thailand while waiting for your Non-O retirement Visa approval. However, it's important to note that processing times may vary, especially in Chiang Mai, where approvals could take longer than the expected 15 working days.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

Be aware that Chiang Mai frequently takes longer than 15 working days. Just a heads up in case youโ€™re planning to leave the country soon after the day you expect to get it. Mine took almost a month when I applied in November here in CM.

OK. We are not planning to travel until the end of March. What do I do if it takes longer than what my 30-day visa on arrival ? Do I just pay overstay ?

they won't even let you apply for the in country Non-O visa if you don't have about 21 days left on your current stamp (a minimum of 15 business days) that's their cut off

mine actually did go beyond my thirty day stampโ€ฆ. Immigration folks told me not to worry because I had the โ€œunder considerationโ€ stamp in my passport. The visa finally came about 10 days past the thirty day stamp. Again, this was in Chiang Mai.

you can extend it for 30 days for 1900 baht at the Imm office.

not necessary to extend as the under consideration stamp will suffice. Here in Chiang Mai anyway.

No issue at all traveling around inside thailand while you wait for the Non-O application review process to be complete.

You do not need EVERY stamp to thailand copied ๐Ÿ˜• As a general rule you need only your most recent entry stamp and any extension to that stamp if you have it along with the data page of your passport
