Can I start the process to renew my extension of stay before it expires?

My extension of stay finishes on the 7th June. Can I therefore now start the process to renew it? After submitting the application is it always 30 days you have to wait for approval or is that just the first year that you do an extension for 12 months?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a yearly extension of stay at most immigration offices when you have 30 days or less remaining on your current stay. Some offices allow applications when there are 45 days or less remaining. If you are applying for a yearly extension based on marriage, you will receive a 30-day under consideration stamp after applying.

If you' talking about a yearly extension based on marriage to a thai then you ALWAYS get a 30 day under consideration stamp and then you go back.

for a marriage extension Phrae office always ask for 45 days. Just done my second one a couple of weeks ago.

they can ask what ever they want, :)

BUT

the real rule is you can do it right up until the last day your current extension is valid for if you want to AND they'd give you a 30 day under consideration stamp from the date you applied.

As a rule you can apply for a new yearly extension at most immigration offices when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp (as long as you meet the requirements)

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Buriram and a few others allow you to do it when you have 45 day or less left.

SO if you have an extension expiring on the 7th of June you can apply any time after May 8th at the offices that allow you to do it 30 days or less and anytime after April 23 if you use one of the offices that lets you apply when you have 45 days or less :)

It will be at Bangkok Chang Watthana. So 45 days is okay for marriage 1 year extension?

@Ste***
yep in Bangkok, as long as you meet the seasoning requirements for your proof of funds you can apply any time after April 23rd (when you have 45 days or less left on this current extension)

Remember for seasoning of funds it's got to be in the account for 2 months from when you APPLY for the extension not from when your current extension runs out.

Other than that you're good to do it :)
